Shouldn't they be going after Mel Gibson instead? This seems a bit cruel to me.

If you look at his acting career, I don't think that the reality shows the dramatic downturn that he's describing. Now, obviously I don't know what sort of offers he was receiving before/after The Passion of the Christ, but this idea that he was suddenly blacklisted or something seems patently untrue.

Yeah, I think it's a lot of BS.

Here's his entry at imdb:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001029/

I don't think he's been doing too bad, considering that there are plenty of actors in Hollywood who never get very far in their acting careers and they're lucky if they are offered a walk-on or one-line part in a bad Rob Schneider movie. Perhaps he hasn't been offered certain desired parts and he's just whining about it.

ETA: It occurred to me that WonderRandy may read this and he's currently working at an acting career in Hollywood. Randy, I hope you do much, much better than those poor people stuck doing one-line parts in bad Rob Schneider movies.

Agreed and I also think it's likely that he's not accepting certain roles because of his religious beliefs.

I agree they should go after Mel Gibson also he is the one that helped produced passion of the Christ. My husband likes that movie, I liked it when I seen it in theaters, it moved me how bad Jesus was tortured like that, however it didn't seem that the movie had 45 min seen of him being beaten and tortured. However, Passion of the Christ movie is not one of my favorite Jesus films because I don't like reading the subtitles there, i like Jesus of Nazareth Better because it is all in English and I can watch it better.
I do believe that I support actors and actresses that don't take roles that they feel will not help their marriage or their believes and values, this is same as Kirk Cameron. He was the one that played in growing pains and later became a Christian and did way of the master ministry and acted in the movie Fireproof.

It's possible he was being offered many roles previously, but now most of these same directors aren't giving offers. Hollywood may not be shunning him completely but he knows much better than any of us would as to how many roles he has been offered. Even if it's just a few directors who are doing this, it's sad. Celebrities have done much worse than he has done and they don't have problems.

Good!!! If they're shunning Tom Cruise for his religion, the they should shun anyone religious.

If they're shunning Tom Cruise, it's because he's a dangerous nutjob and a failure as a human being.

I wouldn't hire him i wouldn't want to work with him and have to listen to his god BS all day long, sorry just how i feel, and it's the directors and producers right to not want someone for any reason.

From reading the article, it sounds to me that he took part in a controversial film and has been shunned since. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with his beliefs on Christianity.

Maybe he just wasn't as good at Jesus, acting, or controversial roles as this guy.

^I can't think of one actor that can even compare to him when it comes to taking the risk of starring in controversial roles. The movies, roles, and scenes that man is willing to do and has done in the past are crazy.

I'm curious about this, as I never saw the movie. People claim Passion of the Christ promoted anti-semitism. Could anyone give an explanation as to how it promoted anti-semitism?

The movie promoted anti-semitism by promulgating the belief that it was the Jews who turned in Christ to the Romans and therefore it was the Jews who killed Christ, the belief that is the basis of 2000 years of persecution against the Jews.

I can't give you any personal anecdotes, but after the movie came out, the Los Angeles Times published a letter from a Jewish teacher for one of the local public schools in which she stated that one of her Christian students came up to her and said she'd seen the movie and it made her sad. The student then sighed and said "I hate the Jews." The teacher then ended the letter by thanking Mel Gibson for this.

No, he does need to be judged for some of the things he has done. By all accounts, he is a bad person.

People who blame others for their success OR failure get no respect for me. This town doesn't work that way. It may seem that way on the surface, but really, work begets work, and Jim Caviezel has nothing to whine about. This is right up there with the actress suing IMDB for disclosing her real age (which she voluntarily provided). If you have skills, and are willing to work your ass off, you'll do just fine in Hollywood.

BTW, I just booked my first feature film. I start shooting next week.
