rootsofcompassion.org, your online resource for vegan, animal and eco rights information has a pretty new look! we've been working nonstop the past few weeks to bring to you a newly updated and designed website, with lots of new goodies!

what's new? well, first of all the newswire. it now uses movable type, a personal publishing system i implemented in the site. this makes posting news much easier for everyone in the ROC collective, since individual posting is possible, which also means less work for me. oh and people can also comment on posts now. i'm excited to see how that works...

what else? i have separated the website in a "zine" section and a "food" section which makes it easier to navigate. basically all sections have some new items, a few new recipes, articles, reviews, the onelinedrawing interview (finally), and more, just have a look around.

i am still working on a new forum and a new online shop. these two should go online within the next two months. in the meantime everyone in the ROC collective is busy working on the new version of our print zine! yes, and we are still looking for input!

if you have written or drawn something about veganism, animal rights, stuff thats happening in your community, etc, everything is welcome! you can mail us stuff to

[email protected] or

[email protected] or

[email protected]!!!

roots of compassion is meant to be a network for people, that means everyone can participate! send us stuff, drop a mail or talk to us!!!!

thank you.

:: the ROC collective.

p.s. sorry if this in the wrong section. please move it if i got it wrong.

I hope this isn't an April Fool's joke.

I just get a blank white page, and I have visited the old site and seen plenty.

I did a "View | Source" and looked at the HTML and see a lot of meta-tags but the body-tag shows nothing inside.

I am using IE 6 right now.

Edited to add:

Maybe it is something with my browser.

If I put in the URL given in the source code in the "meta HTTP-equivalent" tag, then I can see it fine, i.e.,

http://www.rootsofcompassion.org/mt-weblog/index.shtml

But

http://www.rootsofcompassion.org/

just gives me a white page.

Works for me too.

When I click the .org link I have a blank page for a moment and then get redirected to the / / index.shtml thing.

I've got a cable connection so it switched quite quickly.

Maybe Joe has something switched on that makes shtml not working ?

unfortunately i don't know enough about computers to offer any help. but do let me know if you think that it's something wrong from our end and i'll get marc (my bf) to check it out.

we had a record number amount of hits yesterday so it seems to have been working.

I tried it out in my other two browsers, K-Melion and Netscape 6.2. It works fine in each of these, but it does so by switching to the longer address automatically.

IE 6 never switches to the longer address. I have shut off Active X, so that might have something to do with it. But I often get a warning--like "this page may not view properly without Active X controls"--but there was no warning here.

It appears not to be related to the speed of my internet connection because it says "Done" in my IE status box, and I have modem software that graphically shows when something is being transmitted, and this was showing no further transmission.

Weird.

i have been informed by the technical team (hah) that the page you're opening is forwarding to the longer address and that might be a problem with some browsers..

we have IE 6 and also use opera as well and it works fine in both of these browers.

i hope it doesn't cause alot of problems ....

I guess it is just a glitch in my own IE 6 as installed and set up on my machine.

I think your site is a very good site as far as content is concerned.

I particularly like your nutrition chart downloadable here:

http://www.rootsofcompassion.org/bet...ownloads.shtml

It wasn't clear if the downloads section was linked to your main page, however; and if not, whether this was intentional or not.
