Hi everyone I am new to the Vegan way of eating. I recently was 240 lbs and went on the Dukan Diet in June of this year. I lost thirty six pounds. On day I was browsing through netflix and I watched Forks Over Knives. Well after seeing that movie, I decided to get off the Dukan diet and went totally vegan since Saturday, Sept. 10th. I love it and I lost an additional 4 lbs. I have a Culinary background and this has brought back my passion to cook again. I never would have thought that eating a vegetarian diet could be so healthy, fun and easy. It was a little rough at the start from going a high animal protein diet with eggs, fish and milk to a vegan diet. I went cold turkey and it took a little getting used to what to eat. I thought I would have went crazy for carbs because the starches were restricted for 90 days on the Dukan diet. I got a couple vegan and Raw cookbooks and I am on my way. I wish I would have known to check my email spam for the activation for this forum, cause I would have been posting 10 days ago. I had so many questions and no one to answer them. I met a couple cool employees at my local Health Food Stores who are a wealth of knowledge and a great help.

You sound like you'll have a fun time going vegan!
I've never understood why chefs wouldn't embrace vegan cooking. Anyone who can do so much with spices, herbs and different food combinations and techniques I'd think would gravitate towards vegan foods with passion! Whether they were vegan or not. Instead, the majority (at least T.V. chefs) seem to persecute vegans as heretics or something.
It took me some time to get used to the total change. After a year, I LOVE cooking! ...and baking, which means I gained some weight back!
