Hey everyone! My name's Samy and I'm 19 from IL. I've been married to a great guy named Brad(26) since 8-6-04. We have a beautiful daughter named Laney who was born 8-3-05. I am new to the vegan lifestyle but I stopped eating meat(except for occasional chicken strips) when I was about 6 years old because it made me sick thinking about eating animals. I do not like meat at all so it won't be a problem not eating it. But I've always liked cheese pizza so that'll be kind of hard. Can you use soy cheese for pizza and still get the cheese pizza taste, anyone know? Thanks! I look forward to meeting you all and making new friends to help me with my new lifestyle!

Welcome to VB, and good luck on your veganism! I don't think soy cheese tastes anything like real cheese, unfortunately, but if you can find one that melts well (I like cheezly extra melting mozarella flavour) then it can make a decent substitute.

Welcome to VB, Samy!
I use soy cheeze for my pizzas. It's called Vegan Gourmet cheeze, and they have it in mozzarella, cheddar, and other flavors. You may be able to find it at a health food store or Whole Foods grocery store, if you have one near you. It took a bit for me to get used to it, but now I love it on pizza and it's a close enough substitute for me! It melts really well if you cover the pizza with tin foil in the oven. I found it was easier to enjoy after I waited awhile from eating pizza.. I eventually forgot what cheese tasted like, anyway.

Check out the "Weaning off Dairy" thread in the Vegan subforum. You will find lots of support and advice there from vegans and people who are also trying to go vegan. I wish you the best of luck on your transition to the vegan diet!
