Anyone a little frustrated with this yet? The gym was packed today and I couldn't get a treadmill. I was lucky I was able to grab an elliptical but after about 15 minutes I realized just how bored those make me.

I don't want to be a b word but I have also been going to this gym about 3-5 days a week for over a year. I wanted to scream "Get off!" to the woman I've never seen before who was taking a WALK on my treadmill this afternoon.

Yes, it's quite bothersome sometimes, but they'll be gone in a while.

I know, I know. Feels good to rant anyway.

i go super early in the morning or smack in the middle of the day to avoid annoying people at the gym, its worth it to get up an hour early and beat the slow pokes on the treadmills

I'd give them a week. Not that I don't wish them success, but if someone can't find the motivation to do it any other time of the year, it's not likely to stick suddenly just because it happens to be 2012. Maybe a very small percentage will actually make a real change. The rest will be there until they remember how much more convenient it is to watch TV from the sofa than from a treadmill.

I try to go early - around 6:30 - 6:45. Here, it's just after the folks who are trying to workout before their commute and just before all the young mothers whose kids are in school. It's the "retired" time.

I hope to lose a few pounds. So I am changing my diet and will be going to the gym about 3 times a week. Hope to see some results soon!

My work schedule varies week to week so I never know when I'll be able to hit the gym until fairly last minute. I do like the gym in the early morning if I manage to get myself up and out.

Don't get me wrong, I wish these people the best. I wish everyone would make a real effort to get healthier and stick with it. But it's disheartening to watch so many try and fail.

I don't know why anyone would be annoyed by people who buy gym memberships but ultimately don't use them, since in the long run it only works to your benefit. Suck it up and stop being such gym snobs.

Heh heh very true I had a friend who worked at the Las Vegas Athletic Center while I was living there that said only around 20% of those with memberships go more than two or three times after signing a one year contract. I personally just used it for the pool and maybe the track if it was too hot outside (running outside when it's 120 degrees just isn't fun), so I'm glad all those inactive paying customers helped fund such a nice facility.

I'm sort of one of these people... I had a stressful few months at the end of 2011, and put on a fair bit of weight. I noticed mid-December, and decided it would be useless starting a diet/excersise program then because of christmas calories and all the travelling about nonsense that makes workouts hard to squeeze in. So I started as soon as I came back from my christmas break - Jan 3rd.

However, I'm not taking up anyone else's gym space, because there's one in my apartment building :p Hope you get your treadmill back soon.

I'm dreading going into the gym today. I was sick this week, so I've only been there twice since the New Year. Holiday break is over though, so all the students will be back. Bleh.

No, my gripe at the gym is not a NYR, but curlbros.

My boyfriend was telling me about a guy he saw at the gym this week who obviously did not strength-train any other muscle in his body except his biceps. I wish I had seen him; I bet he is strange looking.

To any gym newbies who may be reading: take advantage of the fact that most gyms offer personal training sessions to new members! Even if it costs some money, it's worth it. It would be a shame to put lots of effort into ineffective exercise or exercise that does not give you the results you want.

I have no problem with new people at the gym. We were all new once. I just wish there wasn't a designated time of year where there's a huge influx.

wtf miss friendly ?!! its not your personal equipment. if you lack the patience & imagination to occupy your mind on the elliptical while you wait your turn for the treadmill, thats not that other womans fault, thats your tough ****, you hafta deal with it
your attitude is why newbie gym goers dont turn into regulars in the first place.
