Hi all!

I've been a vegetarian for two and a half weeks now. I've replaced all my meat products with veggie now.

My concern is...my body is acting very strange the last two days. I was at work, and I had just finished my lunch when all of a sudden I had a craving for meat like I've never had before.

I got shaky and weak. The only thing I could think to do was to eat a snack. All we had at work was candy. (I'm not a big candy eater)---but i was overwhelmed by this urge to basicly devour a snickers bar. Then I had another. Finally I felt better.

Tonight I drove by taco bell and nearly crashed as I thought about going in for a burrito supreme! I went home and ate some three bean pasta salad, but I still felt weak and shaky.

I think I'm getting enough protein, but I'm not so sure. Am I just going through a withdrawl sympton from a lifetime of meat addiction?

Is this normal?

hi there jesguy.

are you eating a well balanced diet? the body is great at telling you if it's missing something. protein and fat don't have to come from animals, and plant sources can be just as satisfying physically. can't speak to the mental cravings.

you might not be eating enough calories. Being shaky and weak sounds like plain hunger rather than a craving, to me. On a vegetarian diet you may feel you need more food to get the right amount of calories, especially if you were a big meat eater before. Make sure you are getting plenty of fat & carbs to fill you up.

If you're missing the taste of meat, add in a couple of meat substitiutes. You mentioned taco bell...I usually buy one of those packaged 'taco kits' that comes with the shells, spice mix and salsa. I use TVP in place of the mince and cheezly extra melting in place of the cheese (If you're lacto you can use moo cheese, it will taste even more like the 'real thing' that way I guess). Yummy!

Good luck!

If you give us an idea of what you are eating on an average day, then perhaps we can pinpoint if it is diet related. It sounds like it is - can you post what you eat, and we can have a look?

I was slowly coming to this conclusion. Thanks. I dont think I'm eating enough. I was a big meat eater, and I switched to veg overnight. (Of course I'd been weighing the option and researching for months ahead of time) But when I decided to go veg, I made the switch literally overnight.

I like the taco bell kit idea. I've seen those. I'll put it on my new grocery lists. Thank you very much.
