Hi everyone! I've recently decided to become vegetarian. I've tried twice before but both times I hadn't recieved support from my mom. My friend has also just become vegetarian and I decided to try once more. Hopefully this time with more support I'll make it.

I really want to do this but I'm kind of confused. I want to be vet and in bio we have to disects frogs. I remeber when we had to do this in 7th grade and i completely broke down but this year if i want to get into AP Bio i need to do the disection and then in AP bio we'll have to disect cats. I know don't know how I'll react this time.

Effie! It's great that you're giving it another go. I remember when you first wanted to become veggie and how your mom practically wouldn't feed you. Now, we can do this together and forget your mom! I'll cook for you ^.^ I'm making sitr-fry right now. Don't you love how the dissection is what did it to us both? *sigh* It makes me so sad... Bio class.

I wish you will be able to gain support from your mom. In your bio class, I suggest you talk to your teacher about alternatives to dissection, including computer simulations, etc. If your teacher still forces you to do a dissection, talk to your principal, and if the principal forces you to do the dissection, talk to a higher authority.

Awwe, I hated that class for the same reason. I remember I refused to dissect a frog and I got a F they would not let me do anything else. I hope your professor is more understanding than mine was.

I am sorry you are not getting the support from your mom That really sucks when someone so close to you isnt being supportiave. I am having the same problems right now with my hubby. Just remember your reasons for going veggie and eventually they will come around, that is what I hope for. Good luck!

Try to take as many steps on the positive, life-affirming path that you can!

And, by the way, (1) there are virtual ways to dissect frogs on the internet, and (2) whether or not you dissect animals, you can still be a vegetarian and not *eat* animals.

Best of luck!

I'm not sure what to advise you about dissection. Talk to your teacher and see if there are options. And maybe talk to some vets and find out if in their opinion doing a virtual disection would be beneficial to you. At some point as a vet you'll need to do surgeries - would having dissected a real one give you a better real-life feel for what you'll be doing the first time around? That's a question I can't answer.

Welcome and concratulations! You have to dissect a cat? A whole cat? damn. Anyways, hopefully your mom will warm up to the idea of vegetarianism after she see's you can be completly healthy for a while. Good luck!
