Hi,

My name is Rebecca and I have many questions. I have been toying with vegetarianism off/on for about 3 years. I have decided to go completely vegetarian for health reasons. I am a borderline diabetic and have about 40# to lose. My first question what does one recommend to lose weight and still feel satisfied? I like many types of fruit, nuts, veggies, grains but my problem is that I get bored easily. Another question i have is what beauty products are vegetarian ( cosmetics, soap etc)? Now on cosmetics i am a stickler about good quality, so please only give me something you have personally tried. One last question, what dog food is vegetarian? I have these questions because i need to know tried and true products so I can eventually make everyone in my household "switch" without too much whining and complaining.

Any help you all can give me would be greatly helpful. I do belong to a food co-op that deals with alot of vegetarian products that I can buy in bulk. I like different types of ethnic cuisine and yes i am a chocoholic and coffee mainliner.

Have a great day,

Rebecca

Welcome to the boards! You might get a better response if you post your questions in the individual boards.

If you want to feel satisfied, you need to eat a combo of complex carbs, proteins, and fats. Yes, I said fats. Even though you want to lose weight, you still need healthy fats in your diet. Kristadb is the woman with all the nutrition answers--check out the recipes and food discussion board and you'll soon have a wealth of info and great recipes.

Welcome!

Your diet sounds pretty good. Just make sure to get whole grains (vs. refined, "white" ones). Fiber is your friend, so when buying any grain product, try to only buy those that have at least 3 grams a serving. High fiber food will help you to feel full longer, especially when paired with a little protein and good fat. Also, really try to listen to your body. If you find you want to eat, ask yourself if you're really, physically hungry, or if it's something else. If it is something else, explore it. Plus, exercise exercise exercise! Having a good diet or exercising is good, but doing both together will make all the difference.

For vegetarian beauty products, you might want to check out www.veganessentials.com and www.veganstore.com . Personally, I love Kiss My Face products and use ZuZu Luxe for the little bit of cosmetics I wear.

There are a few kinds of vegetarian dog food. This link has info on them: http://www.vegancats.com/ordering.html

I've tried Evolution and Nature's Best with my dog, but he's very sensitive and didn't take to them well at all (i.e. lots of diarrhea and vomiting), so now I feed him California Natural, which isn't vegetarian. Every dog is different, though.

Good luck with everything!

This is a site worth browsing. These are well-respected physicians at: http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/faq.html

And this is a great reference for vegan products and other stuff! Check it out:

http://planet-hawaii.com/gentleworld...ues/vegan.html

Also, I like (and the majority of my products are) "Aubrey Organics" : http://www.aubrey-organics.com/index.cfm. I use their deodorants, lotions, soaps, shampoos, etc. Most are vegan.

I also like "Jason" http://www.health-and-beauty.us/jaso...uct_index.html - you have to check yourself each label to determine if vegan; "Desert Essence, "http://www.desertessence.com/; "Avalon Organics," http://www.avalonnaturalproducts.com...-hme1-AVL.asp, which have vegan products. I kind of switch between products/brands just to try different things. I do notice that I seem to buy "Jason's Sea Fresh" toothpaste quite often.

I think you have to do some browsing in your market.

There are makeup sections with vegan products, but you have to ask. Sometimes they aren't always vegan, but advertise as "all natural," or "no animal testing," but still contain animal byproducts.

I have some "Bella" vegan lipsticks, some vegan lip balms (plus I recently made my own).

I also love "Azida" sun screen, lip balms, lotions. I didn't care for the shampoo I tried. I also love that they're 100 % vegan!

They don't have a lot of products, but they are high quality, in my opinion. Here: http://www.azida.com/

And this is fantastic dog food. They custom tailor food for *your* Pet! If you want vegan, vegetarian, or some with animal products, it's up to you. My dog loved this food and the little homemade treats that came with the food shipments! http://www.wow-bow.com/vegekibble.htm

I hope this helps you some. Welcome!
