Hey I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I am a recent vegetarian. I have been for almost two months.

I used to kinda have a bad attitude about vegetarianism. I kinda mocked it because when I first really read about vegetarianism it rubbed me the wrong way. I guess I felt at the time that if someone didn't eat meat I didn't have a problem with it, but I felt if they were preachy then that was really lame. Like PETA which totally rubbed me the wrong way. Thru friends and just maturing over the years, I have seen thru preachy people because preachy people shouldn't ruin a good cause or belief.

I kinda started out for health reasons but ya know I have come to understand more and more of what it is all about...

I wanted to lose some pounds. I stopped eating fast food. (Except Subway and a salad and baked potato from wendys)

I was still eating meat but I was eating a little better. Then I just cut back on meat hardcore. I'd eat a little here and there but for the most part I was eating pasta, vegetables, veggie sandwiches, veggie burritos, soup, etc.

Then I just started to think that I didn't want it anymore. So I eventually decided to cut it out altogether. Some of my friends were shocked especially considering what I had said before about vegetarianism. Some people I talked to about it even seemed concerned/disappointed.

I had been told to be careful and that I would get so sickly without my Amino Acids and protein. I think people believe a lot of bull**** they hear about being vegetarian. From the little bit that I researched it seems that as long as I eat plenty of beans, rice, soy, and vegetables then I will get all the protein and amino acids I need. Is that correct? I drink soy milk everyday and usually have one meal a day with beans and rice.

I noticed how much better I have felt once I started eating better. My general mood, my self esteem, all that stuff has improved.

I didn't realize how much of a difference it would make. And I don't miss fast food AT ALL. I don't really miss meat either. I am just kinda indifferent to it now. It was weird for maybe a week or two but I have gotten pretty adjusted to it. My body at first was like WHY AREN'T YOU FEEDING ME MEAT?? But I think now my body would be like WHY THE HELL ARE YOU FEEDING ME MEAT???

Hi Cpt. You're correct, enough complete proteins can be had from a veg diet. Check out some of the nutrition threads about protein, it should lead you down the right path.
