Hi
I've been looking for a vegetarian message board and I found this one here. I'm pretty new to vegetarianism. I've been on and off for years, but I finally decided to go strictly vegetarian, and have been for about 2 months now.

I only know one other vegetarian, and she is an acquaintance at work, so I really have no friends to talk to about it or to take advice and support from, not that I really need support, but I'm sure you all know what I mean, especially when you're a guy and other guys act like you're less of a man for not eating a steak (not that I care what they think, but it does get old)

Anyway, I didn't mean to ramble, but that's my introduction! Peace.

During lunch at work last week, it came to someone's attention that they hadn't seen me eat meat in a while, which prompted someone else to ask me, "You don't eat meat?" It's not something I really like to talk about, to be honest. I don't make a point to tell everyone because it's none of their business. Plus I don't want to have to hear all the questions, etc. But I told the person that no, I don't eat meat. And immediately, the whole table reacts, letting me know how much meat they can eat, and how they could never give it up. Someone said, "Oh man, I could eat a whole cow, I swear to God!" What do I say to that? Who cares?

Then you get the people who say, "If cavemen didn't eat meat, then our brains wouldn't have been able to develop into what they are today." Again...so what? This is 2011 and we have evolved enough to where we have choices beyond just hunting, killing, fishing, and rubbing two sticks together to cook it. I don't get why they say that.

Yep ..familiar with all this. We girls get this crap too!

It seems that as soon as one member of the herd latches on he raises the alarm to the whole herd and they all moo as one, jostling for place as the biggest , bravest , bloodiest meat gobbler doesnt it?

My son in laws favourite hobby at family meals used to be squeezing his steak until it ran with blood and then proudly displaying it to me to attract an audience. I have managed to master the techniques of closing him down and he doesnt risk it anymore.

I would advise you to read up on such threads as 'Stupid things meat eaters say' on the forum to glean ways to cope and come out on top in these situations and read appropriate arguments to perfect to enable you retaliate to these lunatic caveman type lines.

Good luck and let us know how it goes !
