and i just wanted to post up an introduction to you all! my name is Jessica, and I just found this nice forum a few days ago and decided to join up! I'm originally from southern California, Orange County specifically, but moved to Bozeman, Montana for a veterinary degree in 2009. the reason i moved is because they have a great vet program and i got a sweet scholarship. I'm vegan, and have been since i was 15. Back in Cali i liked going to the beach, surfing and shopping with my girlfriends...but things are very different up here in cold Montana. i actually heard about this forum from a guy friend i know here who is also vegan. this state isn't exactly vegan friendly so it's nice to have normal people to talk to!

Hi and welcome Jessica.

This may be a silly question, but are you planning on a career as a vet? How do you think you can reconcile some of the things that you will have to do as a vet against your own vegan beliefs? Or do you plan on becoming an "animal rights" vet?

Hi and welcome!

My vet is a vegetarian, too. They're hard to come by here in VA. But I'd much rather have a vegetarian/vegan vet than not.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Vincent, yes, i hope to someday open my own vet clinic that is animal friendly. i don't especially like giving them shots, but if it can help the animals live a long, healthy happy life then i suppose i can deal with giving them a moment of mild discomfort. i've wanted to be a vet since i was 7, when a poor baby robin i found in our yard had a broken wing. my mom and i took the birdy to a vet clinic in Huntington Beach and they fixed his wing and he got to fly again! it's now my life dream! i will not however, euthanize any animal, ever! if someone wants that then my clinic will not be the place for them. the one thing that breaks my heart is my animal anatomy class i had to take last year. they made us autopsy a poor kitty that passed away! i had to leave several times because i was just absolutely sick to my stomach and had to vomit and cry. i left as soon as i could to try and erase the image from my mind. i have a kitty and just can't bear the thought of what would happen if she passed away. since seeing that i've decide that when it is Ami's time, i'm going to have her cremated and spread her ashes somewhere peaceful.

Poppy, there are no animal friendly vets up here, i can't wait to be done with school so i can move away from this place, hopefully somewhere warm again like Florida or back to Cali!
