I have never had a honeycrisp apple before. I'm eating one right now for a snack and it's great. It's very crispy and just a little bit sweet and tart at the same time. I haven't had a variety this good before.

It's been a while but the smaller grocery store in town used to bring in some locally grown Macintosh apples, holy crap they were good. Sadly they haven't done this in a few years.

Anyway the difference between the locally grown Macintosh apples and the normal shipped from god knows where Macintosh apples was akin to comparing home grown tomatoes to those hot house things they sell in the grocery store.

Oh!!! I know what you mean! I grew up right near the best macintosh groves anywhere. It ruined apples for me. Well, not really, I still buy macintosh and complain.

I can't even discuss the fabulousness of the sweet corn on the cob from the nearby fields. Sigh.

Hmmm, I've never had a honeycrisp that was anything special. Every one I had was not particularly crisp, and was nearly flavorless. I've bought them several times, from different stores, and they were all blah. Definitely not worth the extra price, IMO.
I had some really nice discovery apples last year, but the ones this year were really disappointing. The best apples I've had this year were ones from the neighbour's garden - probably the local and in season thing. Usually, I just buy granny smiths.

I love Jonagold and pink ladies best. I really need an apple to be crisp.

Picking oranges off of trees in Florida, pretty much ruined all citrus for me, as did tomatoes off the vine in Texas.
