Heinz ketchup in the supermarket is free of animal products, I think their curry sauce is also. Sateh sauces often contain milk or traces of milk (melk in Dutch) you have to be careful with that.

Yeah Sambal is spicy goodness. I make sandwiches with peanut butter, sambal oelek and fried onions (you can buy these in the store. They're called 'gebakken uitjes' and are probably in the same isle as the sambal oelek
. Or make them yourself of course)
But i think you can try the 'oelek' version. Just took a jar out of the fridge and the ingredients look pretty vegan to me.

And if you like spicy you should really try 'Katjang Pedis'. Watch out though some brands contain eggs and trassi traces.

Why am I reading this when the shops are all closed already and I have no way of getting these ingredients?

What kind of merciless God taunts me so?!

Hoi hoi alemaal.

Not Dutch, but have been living in your country for a few years now. It's quite nice here!

Only very recently (6 months) went veggie (thanks Gary Yourofsky).

Haven't actually been out to any vegetarian restraunts so would welcome any advice for Amsterdam.

Paying it forward, my advice to you all is not to dine at De Klos if you don't eat meat. I ordered a salad and the guys really laid into me, got the whole restaurant shouting abuse at me too... every time I looked around or went to the loo, people would shout and shake their head/ fists at me.

Actually, do go, it's quite fun.
