Hi I'm new and need some advice!!!

I just went vegan but I've been a veg for about 2 years (since I was 14)

I live in a tiny town that has little to no vegan options

My parents aren't supportive of my transition (they didn't even like it when I went vegetarian) so I'm buying every *special* vegan thing

So, Basically..... !! I would love some advice from other vegans about how I will survive on things other than oatmeal and soymilk! Plus where to do my shopping (online?)

Thanks

Can you get cereals like rice; pulses (lentils and beans); fruit and vegetables in your town? Fruit and vegetables are yummy!!!! Beans are great as well. Don't buy the canned ones. Canned food sucks. Rice is better when it's brown, but if you can't buy brown rice, the white one will do.

You don't need processed foods in order to eat well by the way. On the contrary. Processed foods should be a rarity rather than a daily thing.

Yea, I should be able to find those here, there's actually a lot of people here who eat healthy/vegan stuff, but the closest health food store is over half an hour away, go figure! I'm not looking for processed stuff (processed=yucky!) just stuff I can get for CHEAP. What are some staples that I need?

This is the best smiley ever!!!

Been there, done that, just not as young. Trying to make stuff your parent like too could make life easier -- it will let them know that you are making a life choice and not just rebelling against them (which they may well think -- mine did). Maybe a nice pasta sauce or red beans and rice. Or whatever you think would appeal to thier sensabilities. Then just take it one day at a time until you get to college!

I live in a small town in Alaska and everyone here eats meat and the byproducts so there are no special vegan alternatives here. I just read the labels on EVERYTHING, you'll be suprised at what you can find that is Vegan-edable. But basically I eat lots of dried fruits and veggies and make sure to consume at least 1 serving of beans a day, really important! Email me if you want any help.
