So I want to go vegan. But I just don't know what to eat. I tried it but it feels like there aren't alot of meal choices. We have some fruit and veggies in my house but what meals do I eat? Do I eat rice, or bread? I usually eat alot of dairy so when I cut that out it feels like theres nothing to eat.

Also another question, do the cravings for meat, dairy, and junk food stop? I included junk food because I want to stop eating that as well.

Any tips for how to transition into this, most of all any home meal easy to make ideas?

You don't have to choose between rice or bread. You can eat both... The cravings will eventually stop. Just some people get over them quick, for others it takes longer. Just remember why you're doing this (whether for health or for the animals; whatever your reason is). If it's smell that is inducing the craving, try to get away from it, and entertain yourself with something else.

There is a lot of foods you can eat: Pasta, rice, potatoes, beans, all types legumes, all types of vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, tempeh, falafel... You can substitute the milk for a plant-milk: Soy, almond, rice...

I think the best way to transition is to search for plenty of recipes online. There is a recipe section on this forum.
And here are a couple more websites: http://www.vegweb.com/recipes , http://www.findingvegan.com/ .
Some recipes tend to ask for a lot of ingredients, but a lot of those ingredients are usually spices, so you don't need to use them all.

I advise you to learn how to cook if you want to go vegan. It will make veganism a lot easier. Start with simple things like boiling pasta and potatoes, stir-fries, grilling (Portobello mushrooms, eggplant,...) if you have a griller.

Some simple things would be: Spaghetti with lentils in tomato sauce, rice and beans, stir-fried vegetables and tofu... Google is your friend - search for "easy vegan recipes", I'm sure you'll find something. Learning how to cook isn't hard; most of the time is just following the directions of the recipes. You just need a little will, and a tiny bit of creativity. For example, if the recipe asks for one type of pasta and you don't have it, use whichever one you have. If it asks for a specific ingredient and you don't have it, substitute it for another one you have or just don't add it in.

Here are some meals I tend to eat: Rice or macaroni with kidney beans and cabbage, Potatoes with fava beans (boiled) and baked hearts of palm, then I personally add a little olive oil and garlic at the end for taste. Sauteed onion, chickpeas, and green beans. Whole wheat pasta with peas and mushrooms - I boil the pasta, then I saute some cherry tomatoes (for taste) until they're melted. Once they are, add the peas and mushrooms, and finally add the pasta.

For a college guy with no experience in the kitchen I would suggest beans (from a can) mixed with rice, stir-fried vegetables and salsa. Throw in some corn chips and you have a great dinner that's not too unhealthy :)
Pre packaged foods can be a lifesaver, and they're not always unhealthy. Lots of vegan soups and meals come prepackaged and ready to microwave, and with the exception of sodium are not terrible for you. When you do cook things like rice or chili, make a large amount and prepackage meals for yourself for later lazy days. Seek out vegan specialty stores at a farmers market, sometimes they even have budget friendly prices. Good luck :)

I find that when you change the way you eat your taste buds adjust after awhile. I never thought I would crave broccoli but I do! :p

Give it time and keep learning about new vegan food and it'll get easier and easier. :)

Here are 50 vegan sandwich ideas: http://vegansoulpower.blogspot.ca/2011/02/50-vegan-sandwiches.html

Simple things I usually have are avocado, cucumber, tomato and hummus. Or you could do that bagel and banana with some peanut butter as well to make it more filling. A jar of peanut butter can go a long way when you want cheap easy meals.
