My sister just turned twelve, and my parents had said to me some time ago that twelve is the appropriate age to talk to a kid about veganism. They never thought that she would ask on her birthday to see the Meet your Meat vid I have. And all of my peta and peta2 pamphlets and handouts.<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/sneaky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":shifty:"><br><br>
I felt kinda bad that she freaked out, but so far, she has stuck with her vegetarianism (she has to ease into veganism). I think they totally overreacted<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/mad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=""> , saying that I was brainwashing her.<br><br>
I lover her to death cuz she said to them, "How can it be brainwashing if the stuff is true?!?" <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/doh.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":doh:"> Teehee....I wanted to say that to them for a long time........<br><br>

Oh that's great! I'm so jealous... my animal loving sister (complete freak about animals- everything she does is animal related) lived with me for 4 years while I raised her from 12 to 16 and she still didn'tshow any interest in becoming veg. At least she started only eating meat when we went out and not at home after a few years.

I think that many 12 year old children make the choice to go veg*n and it disturbs thier parents...I think that if that is the most disturbing thing a 'tween' does then those parents are lucky <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/laugh.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":lol:">

Yeah, I mean, I've done way worse in the ways of 'disturbing' my parents. Think going into the pit at concerts, going hardcore, them finding out I have an anxiety disorder......you name it, I've been there. I think they just don't want her to become the new me.<br><br>
Personally, I would be thrilled if someone in the family took after me.

I think it helps if you start cooking for them what you like. I have a great cookbook that has some great recipees, given in vegetarian and vegan form.

I have a lot of at-home microwaveables that he already likes. He loves Tofu Scramble in a Pocket Sandwich by Amy's and also her non-dairy bean and rice burritos. He eats Soy Dream Ice Cream with me, too. And he likes chocolate soymilk.<br><br><br><br>
I was lucky to find someone so open-minded to the way I live. He even talked to me about raising our kids vegan [if we have any] and agreed to it whole-heartedly.

That's great, aotto! Unfortunately nobody in my family has turned vegetarian because of me, although my mother has become pretty open to veg*n food and wants me to make scrambled tofu for her to try next time I visit, hehe.<br><br><br><br>
Handcuffed Angel: try picking up Vegan with a Vengeance at the store or library, I am in love with it. A lot of the recipes can be made for pretty cheap too, like split pea soup, which is good since I'm on a limited budget as well. Mmm..

My younger sister is a vegan, she followed on for me also, it is easy catering for her at least!

That's great that she decided to go veg. No converts in my family, although Mr. Tess is nearly a de facto vegetarian because he's so easygoing he'll eat whatever I plan. And my mom eats a lot less meat now and is getting interested in different vegetarian products like veggie burgers.
