I usually have my rabbits in an enclosure in the afternoon, with a wooden roof, netting walls and netting bottom.

My female rabbit is a very good digger and she is able to dig her way through the netting bottom. The enclosure is divided into two parts because my rabbits are not friends with eachother. The females part has flat rocks on the bottom to prevent digging.

My male has never even attempted to dig a centimeter, so he only has a netting ground. Well, yesterday when I went to bring them in for the night, they were gone! The female had managed to push through into the males part (dont worry, the male is castrated) and there she had a dug a tunnel out of the enclosure. I guess the male had just followed her..Well I didnt know how long they had been gone, could have been minutes, but could also have been 4-5 hours. It was dark and late, so I got a flashlight and went looking.

After a while I found the male, he had only gone a few meters and hid under the balcony. He is lazy, but the female is much more active and she loves running around.

After hours of looking I gave up, and left her cage open with food.

This morning I went out really early and found her in my garden sitting I was very relieved. Unfortunately she is a rescue and doesnt trust people, so she managed to slip away. But at least I knew where she was.

Then my cat came bursting through the hedge, and he chased her down the whole street! She was running so quickly..I managed to catch my cat, but I didnt see where my rabbit went and hid. That was around 11 this morning and I havent seen her since! My stupid dad let my cat out even though he knew I was looking for my rabbit.

She hasnt entered the yard after the chase and she isnt in my neighbours yards either Im so afraid that shes had an heart attack of the shock and died, or that shes been hurt or taken by a dog or cat. I hung up a notice at the store nearby a while ago today. Ive been looking around so much...I dunno what to do

Edit: It is now 7pm where I live and it is getting dark. I just wanted to share my concern with someone.

my rabbit that I had when I was little escaped once and we found him again. And you've already found her once, so she must have some desire to come home. I hope you find her

Pescas, I'm so sorry to hear about your bun. Does she have favorite treats you could leave out for her? Could you alert your neighbors that she's missing? Prayers and good thoughts for your rabbit.

We have told all our neighbours to watch for her. Also I have made posters and Im going to hang them up around our neighbourhood today.

We still havent seen her

My rabbits are out each day for about 6-7 hours. I really dont have the time to sit there with them for that amount of time daily. Im going to secure the enclosure more though. I hope she is okay. Luckily the weather is nice and she should have no problem getting food or water. We left out food for her but she hasnt touched it The only dangers here are cats, dogs and cars..

Now my dad is fixing the enclosure to make it safer =D Im so happy shes okay. I guess she was just scared to go back after being chased by our cat. Thank you everyone!

Yay! I'm glad you're rabbit is back!

I don't know if you have cuterebra flies in your area, but those things are EVIL. They lay their eggs on or near the rabbit, and the maggot lives in a sort of big boil under the rabbit's skin. My first rabbit lived indoors but I used to bring her out in my yard during nice weather, and 2 of the 3 summers I had her, she was attacked by those things. So the rabbits I have now stay inside.

I don't take my bunnies outside--too many predatory and weather and insect dangers, even when they don't escape! They can even get bugs from other wild animals that have been in the yard. We've also heard of ppl leaving their animals outside for a long time and the sun moves and they die of dehydration or heat stroke in a very short time. Makes me too nervous to even try it.

Yeah. There arent any wild animals here ( except from cats that go outside :p ) and no cuterebra flies. I live in Norway btw, so that might be why. In the summer they have fans and we spray them with water and shave the long haired one I would love to take them in, but it seems more natural for me to keep them out side.

Yay I'm so glad you found her! My rabbit got loose in the middle of the night once (I used to keep them on the screened in porch and someone left the door open) and it took me about half an hour to find him but in the meantime I literally started having a panic attack. It was the most terrifying half hour of my life.
