One of my girls, Kelly, is really sick (she's only about 2 years old). She starting losing her appetite a few weeks ago. The vet starting treating her with an antibiotic and cortisone. She would occasionally eat, but not like she used to. They eventually did a blood test, which showed her being anemic. When they retested her this past week, the anemia got worse. Her appetite got worse this week, too, to the point I had to force feed her (a mixture of kitten formula & Hill's A/D canned food). On Friday my vet suggested bringing her to a specialist. I took her that afternoon, and she's been at this place all weekend. They were quite puzzled at first as to what the problem was....and they still don't know for sure what's wrong with her, but it's starting to look like it might be FIP, which is 100% fatal to the best of my knowledge. I just pray that it isn't the case, that maybe she has something treatable. They gave her a blood transfusion tonight, and tomorrow they're going to do an ultrasound and possibly test her bone marrow. I hate the fact of leaving her there so long; she must be so scared. When I went to visit her today she looked really bad, she wouldn't even pick her head up. Hopefully the blood transfusion perked her up tonight. I have been crying all day....I should really try to be more positive for her sake. Sorry for the long post....I just really needed to share.

Thanks, guys, but my sweet, beautiful girl died 15 minutes after I got her home from the vet last night. I feel so horrible that she spent the last 3 days of her life there....she must have been so scared, thinking we'd abandoned her. I can barely function at work today...when a human dies you're encouraged to take time off to grieve, but when an animal dies you're expected to go on as if nothing happened. Luckily I'm in my own little cubby hole in the corner so I can cry in peace for the most part, until someone comes over to bother me about work which I could care less about at the moment.

Aw, vegankittykat, I am so sorry this happened. I don't really know what to say except I hope you feel a lot better soon, and know that your little girl is no longer suffering. And I'll bet she didn't think you abandoned her, I mean, did you have her spayed or ever pet her into the kennel or had a house sitter? It's the same deal..she probably thought you guys were going to come back, plus I'm sure the people at the vet's office gave her lots of love and attention. And she knew you didn't abandon her because you came back to get her. Please feel better!! Here's a tacky smiley representing the big hug I would give you if I could.

Thanks, guys....I appreciate it. I'm slowly getting my appetite back....I've barely eaten for 2 days. I can't help but crying when I feed my cats now because I feed them on the counter where she always layed....it was her favorite spot so she wouldn't miss a meal. She was extremely sweet and beautiful....she was a semi-longhaired calico. I had found her on a highway overpass in the pouring rain last year. She didn't like my dog at first, but she quickly learned to love him. She never fought with any of the other cats, always used the litter box.....she was such a sweetheart. God, I miss her. I just hope she's happy wherever she is.

aww, i'm so sorry to hear about Kelly. (we share the same name). I know it's hard. Our cocker, who died last year, spent his last three days at the vets office, and I still wish I could have been there with him. His picture hangs on my refridgerator (and my desk, and counter, and mirror, etc). Anyways, I'm glad she got to know your love while you had her. hugs to you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat
My Max passed away in October from chronic pancreatitis, and irritable bowel disease, which we think turned into some kind of lymphoma. I know how hard it is to work when you lose your pet! I work AT the animal hospital so he came in with me that morning, got put to sleep when I went out to lunch, and then I had to finish out my work day in the afternoon!! I'm sure Kelly is in a better place, all warm and comfortable, with her food bowl always filled! Have you ever read the poem Rainbow Bridge? I'll tag it on for you...

Rainbow Bridge

author unknown...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm so sorry about your kitty...I lost my baby rottie Zeus last year to Parvo...I cried all day, and I still miss him. Shadow had puppies 3 days later, but I still miss Zeus. I love Jack, Shadow, Daisy, Apollo, Sally, and Duke (My little baby!), but I'll never forget Zeus, our "Adventure Dog!".

rabid_child - That was beautiful.

I'm so sorry about Kelly. I know how you feel with having to work and with her being at a hospital. Our dog, Thor, died last year at the vet's. Luckily the next day my office mate was on leave, so I could just shut the door and be left alone. I'm glad you got her home in time, though it's probably small consolation.

Keep your pictures, talk about it with people who understand (there are so many people who find it strange to mourn for a pet!), remember, and cry.

aww sorry i didn't check this thread sooner. it sounds like she waited to go home and spend her last minutes with you. if they have to go they should at least be with someone they love when they do, so be glad you were there for her.

you'll miss her i know but try to remember that they're never really gone
