Hi girls!

I got my "monthly visiter" yesterday and I woke up today not feeling well. I have been laying down and watching TV most of the day, but I have plans later. I feel weak and tired, I usually feel a little less energetic when I get my period, but this month it is horrible! Any ideas on why I might feel so bad this month? I ate some toast earlier, but I just don't have an appetite today. Any tips would be great.

hmm. when I am not on Hormonal BC, my period is heavy and I am crampy and feel like crap.

yoga usually helps the cramps, and I usually get a fresh juice or two at the HFS because i don't feel like eating. (carrot, greens for iron, ginger, lemon)

do you take a Cal/Mag/Vit D supplement? there are a lot of studies out that show supplementing can help.

Thanks, maybe I will pick up some of those Naked juices later, they taste yummy and maybe they'll keep my energy up.

I don't take any supplements. Like I mentioned above, I don't usually feel this crappy...so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Hey, I don't want to hi jack the thread or anything, but I am having the same issue. Except I haven't acutally gotten it yet, but I have been uber tired and crabby, and my boobs...well, let's just say they resemble small mountains and hurt oh so bad...Oh, and I literally look pregnant. Like, 6 months pregnant. And I am in high school and in dance classes, so this is making me very depressed everytime I look in the mirror...GRRR... Oh, and I excersice everday but for like 5 days I haven't done anything...except dance...So, does anyone know how to make it come quicker?!?! I need this belly to go away!!! I know the answer is probably yes, but do any of you ladies bloat...a lot...before your periods? Do you gain weight and stuff? (I need reasurance, lol).

So, to the OP, I have no idea how to make you feel better, sorry...maybe eat high energy fruit? Like bananas! And maybe brocoli for iron and stuff...

I don't think you can make your period come faster, or leave sooner(I wish), LOL or heck, make is disappear all together.

Anyway, you could try midol or other medications for PMS. I'm not sure which are vegan friendly, but I'm sure a little searching could help if you're concerned.

Rather than experimenting with otc drugs & food, why not get bloodwork done & see what the hormonal root of this is?

It sounds like low progesterone could play a role, but only bloodwork can say for sure.

If that is the problem, there are many good female tonic herbs out there to resolve things, like vitex, cimicifuga, etc.

Don't just take any of this at random though. Find out *why* you feel crappy before medicating in any way.

One last couple of tips though: exercise does help, and has no side effects, & vegans tend to have lower incidence of things like this (sez my naturopath)

For bloating (and those hurting boobs mentioned earlier are one symptom of holding water), taking a calcium supplement regularly does help. My doctor recommended this and it has made a world of difference.

I'm going through this now too.

Drink lots of water. It will make you go to the bathroom a lot more, of course, but it's better than the weird feeling of being bloated. Water helps to get rid of bloat. Have some fruit, too, but don't overdo it.

Stay away from anything that's significantly spicy or salty. This is hard for me, since I crave spice and salt on my period.
