What did you make the jerky out of?

My friend has a dehydrator and is always making (meat-based) jerky. Before I want veg, I used to love her jerky!

I would be really really really happy if there is a veg alternative!

Hehe eew not meat based. I soak tofu in soy sauce and various seasonings then stick it in the dehydrator. Its an electronic oven like thing that you can use to make dried fruit etc. They sell meatless jerkey in stores. it's expensive but goooood.

Tofu jerkey.....cool. Hubby got me a dehydrator for Christmas last year and so far, all I've done is dehydrate fruit and make *ulp* meated jerkey for Hub. I didn't know that you could do tofu in it. What kind of tofu do you use?

I just use whatever brand I bought at the time. I do not stick to one brand really. What ever is in the package w/ water. Oh it is extra firm I believe but I dont thing it really matters but makes it easier to handle.

i shall have to try fruit soon.

Pineapple is really good in the ol dehy'd. Real sweet and yummy! Bananas are ok, but not as sweet. Cherries are excellent and mango ROCKS! Oranges turn into a thin chip-type thing that is good, if you like chips but bad if you want a little more texure happening. Those are all the fruits I've done so far. As the summer comes on, I'm hoping to do more. Especially since our local produce stand is running some fabbo sales on flats of fruit!

Thanks about the tofu info, 46 avocados. I was wondering if it was firm, soft, whatever and also what kind of tofu you used (water packed, aseptic pack...). You answered both questions at the same time! I can't wait to try it!

dried apples with cinnamon (top it before hydrating), I like golden delicious best, also dried yellow squash seems to get sweet and tastes like a veg. those are my favorites, besides bananas.

I have a dehydrator, and I will have to try this.

Bet it takes a long time to dry since tofu is so full of moisture.

Last time I used my dehydrater I dried about 20# of tomatoes (because they were on sale for 10 cents a pound!!). I use them in soups and stocks.
