We have a 3 year old and a 2 year old. Our 3 year old is extremely picky when it comes to food. However, my hubby and I are vegetarians and most of the time I am cooking 2 meals one for us and one for them. He is a little afraid of a veg diet for them "the kids", that is a concern of mine as well. I guess because it is new to us we worry that they won't get the nutrition they should by not having the proteins meat offer? ( I would think they could get the same protein from beans and such) Most nights we all eat together and the boys enjoy the vegetarian dishes I prepare, even my picky son who will usually have 2 helpings and that is unusual for him lol I hate even buying meat, especially for them but I am kind of afraid not to. If that makes sense.

If it were up to me , I would raise them Veg too..So as far as doctors go and all that, what are your experiences when mention that your kids are vegetarian? I know I shouldn't worry about what they think but ya know I don't want to have CPS called on us or anything

Thanks for any advice you can give a nervous mother!

Judging by all the ways to get protein in a veggie diet that should be the least of your concerns!

Are you talking vegan or L/O? L/O is very simple. As long as you're eating a variety of foods, they should be fine.

My ped didn't say one word about my kids being vegetarian and unless they have reason to believe that your children are malnutritioned they're not going to call CPS on you.

I can't help you with picky, mine were picky mostly about eating meat. They swear they don't want vegetables, ever, but they scarf down green salad like it's going out of style. Go figure.

We're L/O , though we are trying slowly to get away from all dairy, the kids drink Soy themselves and we buy organic milk for us. I just use it for cooking mostly.

lol well my oldest child , the picky one, it seems like he scarfs down the vegetarian meals versus the things he was used to having. I still cannot get him to eat green so I have to sneak it in.

We are starting with a new Pedi next month so I hope It works out

Thanks for the input!

We have never had our pediatrician say a word about the kids being vegetarian. we have had 2 docs prior to the one we have now, ( and thats only because the the first pedi we had moved out of state, and the second retired!) not one of the 3 has had any issues with it. probably because my kids are healthy and growing just fine!

I wouldnt worry about them calling cps on you unless you bring the kids in severely malnourished!

they can get all the protein they need very easily with a L/O veg diet!

good luck

I have never had a problem from our doctor. He himself has eliminated dairy from his children's diet and has gone to organic food (he's not veg though). So he is very understanding. He happens to be a bodybuilder so health and nutrition is very important to him.
