10 years ago, I was a chainsmoking, bratwurst eating couch potato. First I quit smoking. My then 5 year old son asked me to quit. How could I turn him down? After smoking 2 packs a day for 23 years, I was surprised at how easy it was. The only problem I was having was sleeping at night. I got this idea that if I exercised my brains out before bed I would sleep better. So, I began running. The whole sport of running took me in, hook line and sinker. Soon, I started examining other ways to benefit my running. I took a good look at my diet ....... too many saturated fats. The main source of these fats turned out to be animal products, so I cut back on them. The less animal products I ate, the less I wanted. I never intended to become a vegetarian or a vegan, but one day I realized that it had been months since I had eaten any animal products.

10 years later I am still an avid athlete. Mostly I am a long distance cyclists, but play around with running, swimming and strength training as cross training and off season training. I am still a vegetarian. I enjoy real half and half in my coffee, real butter and the occasional cheese too much to go strictly vegan and I feel no remorse for that.

I have loved every minute of the last 10 years, is if I had finally found the real me. It is hard to believe I had ever lived differently.

That's my story and i am sticking to it.
