Hello everyone,

Here is my attempt at an introduction for myself. I have been a vegetarian for almost 4 years now.

The reason I became a vegetarian is unlike most, I didnt do it for the animals or the environment or for political reasons. I became a vegetarian simply because it grossed me out. I was never much for red meat and I ate more chicken and turkey until one day I had a piece of chicken that almost fell apart in my hand from the grease and I said that is it. And here I am almost 4 years later.

At the current state, I am now trying to challenge myself and transition into a lacto vegetarian. I am trying to give up eggs but I am not sure how well I will do. I love pasta to much. I know I can make my own pasta (I have a machine) but my fear is when my husband (who is a whole hearted meat eater) and I eat out. I usually rely on pasta but I am trying to give that up.

I dont know how introduction usually go, but just thought I would let you know a little about me.

I look forward to getting to know you all better also.

haha alpaca guy!

i am a similar black sheep i guess CelestialSong. i decided to go vegan for health...really, but almost at the time...now that i think about it. it was because i felt it would be a liberating and beneficial goal to pursue.

i too had some really disgusting animal product experiences which i know for a fact had a large impact on me.

pasta eh? well, my vice is bread, the GOOD kind
. i just enjoy it, its really not a problem. though i have no problem eating an entire loaf of bread if i don't watch it...hehe. happened tonight even! lol!

what sort of pastas do you eat? not necesarrily shape wise...but ingredient wise? a lot of pasta is made from very refined grains...which isn't the best thing imo to be eating a lot of. cause refined grains have a lot of their good nutritive value removed and in their place the companies fortify the foods with vitamins. there is no substitute for the real thing imo. a vitamin isn't a vitamin, isn't a vitamin. i didn't know this for quite a long time.

introductions are usually just where lots of people say hello, and welcome others, and post many of the different vb code similies
.

welcome, and thanks for sharing!

Thank you everyone for the welcome.

Palindrome, thank you for the question about the pasta I eat. I just looked and most of the pasta I eat is made from Semolina. Even though I have been a vegetarian for almost 4 years, I dont really know any other vegetarians and so I am not that educated about some things. I have just recently joined some newsgroups and hope to learn alot and I have also received the information from VRG on fast food and how to read ingredient labels.

Thank you again.

there is a lot of learning involved. its a gradual process. it does help to be around others. this is a great place to be around other like minded and interesting people!

i think your talking about like real world people though. i am just starting to meet more vegans and am allways running into vegetarians (that mostly could care less to talk about vegan food). i am a bit biased in the back of my mind...yes. but, i know this...and conciously understand that its not healthy. trying to change this.

i find volunteering to be a great way to meet new people. not neccesarily veg*n motivated at all, could be though.
