I had my first veggie burger tonight! It was the veggie burger from Burger King. I knew I'd have to start eating veggie burgers but wasn't sure how I was gonna like them. But this one wasn't bad! Didn't taste like your typical meat burger, that's for sure, but it was tasty and very filling. I was initially worried they cooked it on the same grill as their meat burgers but they don't. Looks like it comes pre-cooked and they just heat it up.

My boyfriend Brad asked what it tasted like, and I said it tastes like a crabcake without the crab. And indeed, it looked like that's what it was. I could see bits of onions, carrots, peppers and mushrooms in it. I'll be having it again.

For those who might not have read my intro, I decided to become vegetarian this past Thursday 5/8. I've only had meat once since, and it was for family-political reasons and it wasn't much. I'm so proud of myself that I've made it 5 days, despite some hunger pains from lack of being prepared, and despite being ridiculed by some family members and coworkers. I swear, I thought being picked on for having pet rats was bad...

It's really not bad, don't make it harder than it is. If you're hungry - eat more!

Do you have Ruby Tuesday's? They have the best veggie burger.

And tell your bf if he wants to know what it tastes like he'll just have to get one next time!

Good for you! Proud of you for making the switch. It's amazing how the brainwashed masses want to make it so hard for you. It's as if they fear you'll prove them wrong.

Hang in there. It only gets better with time! And once you get the hang of veg*n cooking, you'll realize the food does, too!

Yes! We have a Ruby Tuesday's right next door! Can't wait to try it out.

Yeah...several people have made it a point to stop by my desk where I eat lunch to see what I'm having...just waiting to pounce on me if they see any signs of weakness. I was chided for having a Coke today - they couldn't believe that Coke is vegan!

People are so clueless. I mean, yeah, some vegans will avoid Coke, but those are like, the fifth level vegans. You know, the ones who don't even cast a shadow anymore.

Seriously, though. As you become more educated about all this stuff (I've been doing this a year, and I'm still learning new things), you'll be able to spread the word. We all become emissaries in a sense. Once people realize you're still alive, and even thriving, they'll get even more curious. You may even effect a few people's diets, perhaps not getting them to consider veg*nism, but just maybe reducing the amount of meat they consume.

The way I figure it, a 10-25% drop in meat consumption world-wide would be disastrous for the meat producers, even with subsidies.

Hehe, I recall that on the Simpsons but I believe it was more like ' they only eat things which don't cast a shadow'

I hated the BK veggie burger...made me throw up and it tasted really bad. My favorite kind is the Morningstar Farms Grillers ones.

Way to go Lisa, and congratulations on becoming enlghtened! This is the beginning of a wonderful journey for you. I remember when I first started out as a vegetarian, I thought that I'd have to eat the same foods over and over. I've always been a bit of an amateur chef, and my family and friends were horrified by the fact that I wouldn't be cooking up their favorite dishes anymore. As it turns out, I'm an even better cook now, and more creative with ideas. Once you delve into the ins and outs of vegetarian and vegan cooking, you'll never go back. Almost all dairy products are replaceable with healthier substitutes. But baby steps are the key to making it work so you don't become frustrated and give up. Good luck!

Peace,

Yeah, I misquoted it. I was tired. Still, I like the "superiority" my misquoting implied, to sort of poke fun at the vegans who think they're so perfect, and come down on vegans who fall short of the mark.

Don't they grill it on the meat grill at Burger King? That's what I heard but maybe that was somewhere else and they microwave veggieburgers at burger king.
