I guess his twelfth vertebra was shattered... he's going to be needing a couple rods in his back.

That's the thing that sucks about living in a different state... I have to wait a couple weeks before I can go see him. But my mom said he's so out of it right now anyway so it's better that I wait.

Oh Marie That is really terrible. I'm sorry for him, you, the rest of your family.

You have my sympathy. I hope he experiences as little discomfort as is possible!

This has got to be horrible for you to be so far away from him right now. I hope he recovers fast.

I'm sorry Marie. If it makes you feel any better, my grandmother in-law broke her back not long ago and seems to be recovering well. Hopefully it will be the same for your father.

Marie, just remember that a broken back is not necessarily as awful as it sounds. My nephew had his back broken in three places in a really nasty car accident several years ago, and he made a miraculous recovery. (He just has a lot of metal in him now! ) If his legs were numb from the calves down, but he's already getting feeling back, he'll be fine. Just keep him off ladders in the future!

in the long run as it obviously was at the outset of the injury....

Marie, WOW, that's dreadful news How far away is he, many states? I'm sure they could use your help in the future if you can provide it, but while he's in the hospital there isn't much you can do now anyway . . . .

Keep us advised . . . .

I'm not too far from him. I'm in RI and he's in MI... so that's only a morning on a plane.
