and how others look at vegetarians. I totally despise how the Vegetarian community tries to 'fake' the Omnivore's lifestyle!

Soy and other additives that simply mimic the read deal, pisses me off! Vegetarians don't eat a burger, so WHY do some of us TRY so hard to mimic a burger using gawd awful stuff like Soy?

I'm just happy with salads, and no I'm not going to try tofu.

I also don't like supporting giant corporations, soy is a highly profitable for some of the the world's largest multinational agribusinesses. Cargill, Archer Daniels Midland and Solae (a joint venture of DuPont and Bunge). In the past decade, the market for soy has exploded, and soy is now being incorporated into a variety of processed foods, and included in various nutritional supplements.

There is abundant evidence that some of the isoflavones found in soy, demonstrate toxicity in estrogen sensitive tissues and in the thyroid. This can be expected to generate thyroid abnormalities, including goiter and autoimmune thyroiditis. There exists a significant body of data that demonstrates goitrogenic and even carcinogenic effects of soy products on us.

A Vegetarian diet should be simple, and a simple diet is healthier for us rather than some highly processed 'thing' we call food.

It is a relief, isn't it?! And here I've been deceiving myself all these years that non-salad food items were delicious, when all along I have really hated everything but salad.

You know what else is a relief? Now I can simply buy into the omnivores' assumption that the only thing that veg*ns eat is salad. Those omnis were right all along!

I don't care for the fake meat products like boca burgers, but I do like tofu. But I think you can avoid those things and eat A LOT more then salad! I swap veggies in for meat a lot, for example burgers for me are a delicious portobella mushroom grilled up (in the special reserve veggies only space my husband has on our grill).

Oh no!
I'm eating tofu now!

I made the spinach artichoke dip from a recipe I got right here on Veggieboards!

I divided it into covered bowls, and have toasted French bread in baggies, so that I can eat this for lunch tomorrow at work.

But now I'm so embarrassed!
All of the omni's I work with will think I'm trying to pretend to eat like they do!
I just wanted to fit in!

Not really. The actual science doesn't tend to support these claims at all.

Also, if we want more people to become vegetarian or vegan, it's probably better that there are products available that mimic the foods they already enjoy to ease their transition process. Not everyone thrives on salads and raw nuts, especially not at first. Promoting too strict or bland a diet might end up hurting animals in the long run by turning people away from meat-free eating.

i never eat meat imitation burgers. i eat veggie patties, there's many different ways to make them and they're very practical. it's quite annoying when people assume i try to immitate non-veg*n diets.

Eating healthy and avoiding processed foods is all well and good, but it doesn't make you a more "real" vegetarian than anyone else who doesn't eat dead animals.

There's this burger restaurant that serves the most delicious tofu burger here. Served with a side of sweet potato fries, or even tofu fries. So delicious.

Tofu is great and even my omni boyfriend eats it in place of meat. So uh, you can have open minded omnis eat tofu, or they can eat meat.

edit: pirate kitties aren't natural, either, but I still dress my cat in princess hats.
