You're going to Glasto?! Arrrrrgh!!! I really wanted to go this year, to see Radiohead, REM, Nitin Sawhney and a million others, but the tickets sold out almost instantly.

And I won't be going to Reading, cos the tickets have sold out, and they're going for almost £200 each on eBay

As for tips - take loads of toilet paper with you (even though going to the toilet is never a pleasant experience at a festival ><)take plenty of booze - even if you don't drink, and... ummm.. wellies might come in handy

I have a little story to tell about an event that occurred last year, at Reading festival. It's quite embarrassing, really. My friends had made a cake beforehand, with a.. er... 'special' ingredient. I hadn't had any of this special ingredient before, and I ate the cake, happily, thinking that everything would be hunky dory. But after an hour and a half, I was worrying my head off.

To cut a long story short, I ended up as high as a kite, and paranoid that the guys in the tent next door were going to break my arms. In a state of complete fear, I ran out of my tent, darted across the campsite, in the middle of the night... with no top on.

Drugs + festivals - clothes = bad.

FYI - Horizon Organic Dairy in Maryland, USA is having a three day concert/camp out at the dairy. I believe if you camp that breakfast is included each day. The rest of the detail escape me but I'm sure you can get the details at their web site.

As for attending music festivals, I second the notion of making sure you bring a fanny pack or bag with extra toilet paper for the porta johns. It never hurts to have a mini first aid kit with you - you wouldn't believe the number of bandaids I've passed out at festivals. Also, BRING BOTTLED WATER. I learned last year at the Grateful Dead Reunion show in Alpine Valle Wisconsin how valuable good tasting water is on a really hot day. Finally - ENJOY.

I've never been to a UK one though. The tickets alone break the bank.

I'm going to Summerfest in Milwaukee. http://www.summerfest.com/home.php

So far, the only show I'm seein for sure is Jack Johnson/Ben Harper. I really want to see Tom Petty the next night, but the bf isn't into Tom Petty much and since he's paying for most of the trip, I'm letting him pick the shows. Besides, I LOVE Jack Johnson so that in itself is worth the trip.

yeah thats bad news about the fieldday festival. heres hoping it still goes ahead...

Muppetcow - I dont know anything about Jack Johnson, but ive seen Ben Harper live many times and he is truly amazing!

Thanks for all your festival tips/stories. The toilet paper advice will no doubt prove invaluable. I will also remember lots of clean dry socks and garbage bags (bin liners) to attempt to keep me/my possessions as dry as possible. i will start making my list (the preparation is all part of the fun)

Looks like I might be hitting Camp Creek this summer. Depends if I can take Friday off with pay or not! We considered Bonnaroo, but decided that Camp Creek was smaller and more our thing, plus a lot of Creek freeks that we know will be there.

dawngirl, you went to Alpine? I'm jealous! I'm hitting the Allman Brothers this summer instead of the Dead - I'm ticked off that Phil & Friends isn't touring. My fiance and I have gone to so many Phil shows, I really miss the quintet a lot. The Dead is nice, and there's so much history there, but P&F is just more my thing.

I'm trying to get to Moedown in Upstate NY:

Main stage bands: The Flaming Lips, Rusted Root, Peter Prince and the Trauma Unit, Al and the Transamericans and Swamp Donkey.

Second stage bands: Nero, Penny Joe Pullis, Om trio, Jimmy Swift Band, Marlow, Guy Malone, Truffle Bluff and Lynch.

And there should be more announcements. Moe is so cool. Last year (I didn't go) they played six sets for a total of, like, 18 hours of music.

Can't beat Big Day Out which is held at the Gold Coast in every January and Livid which is in Brisbane in October. They have everything.

I'd love to go to the dance festival that's held on Bondi Beach.

Moedown sounds pretty sweet!

Now we're also considering hitting Gathering of the Vibes. Allman Brothers, Max Creek, DBB, Gov't Mule (did I mention I love the Mule?), Warren Haynes solo, Dickey Betts, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Rusted Root, David Grisman.

I missed the Mountain Pickin' this year, but last year's inaugrial run was AWESOME! The music was only supposed to go until 1am, but they were still going at 4! (which is why, I'm sure, they added another day this year)

http://www.mtpickin.com/

Girdwood is like Woodstock all summer, I swear!

Every year I go to Musikfest - they have a bunch of big name bands play, plus tons of other smaller groups from locally and around the world. There's also street performers and a lot of food and alcohol. It's fun. They close of some streets off and it's set up around an entire part of the the city.

http://www.musikfest.org
