[Charlie Chaplin]

I have a full beard, but it's starting to get really hot for the summer. I've thought of shaving it off and leaving only a small moustache as a tribute to a man I admire more than anyone. IMO Charlie Chaplin possessed a comedic genius that still influences film today. I have all his available films on DVD or VHS.<br><br><br><br>
However, I'm concerned that my moustache might be mistaken for a tribute to Hitler, a man I don't exactly admire. What do you think?<br><br><br><br>
And, btw, if you haven't seen The Great Dictator, it's a must-see film in which Chaplin both satirizes Hitler and makes serious commentary on him. It's a talkie. Records show that Hitler ordered the film, but there's no record on whether he laughed at it or was offended by it. It's sad that he definitely didn't take Chaplin's commentary to heart.

since many more people would think of that moustache as a Hitler moustache I would advise against it. Haven't even heard of the movie. I should check it out

Moustaches = bad. It's unfortunate that the chaplin moustache was also used by hitler, but there you go. More people would think it's Hitler-esque than would associate it with Chaplin. It's a good idea to either keep all your hair or shave it all off (or the options that purrpelle mentioned)

Here's what I might do. I'll shave off all except for a regular moustache. Then for Halloween I'll crop it and dress up as Charlie Chaplin, then shave it off the following day.<br><br><br><br>

ooooh, you should do a long curly moustache and wax the ends- just to be different- you could use it to be expressive, and twirl it while you contemplate deep and profound things.<br><br><br><br>
i don't like mustaches really. i'm sorry if i'm being a bit blunt and rude, but to be honest, they remind me of super excessive nose hair. full beards and/or moustaches make me wonder whats under them, and i do get a little scared by them too, to be honest. it probably stems from reading roahl dahls 'the twits' when i was a kid, or bluto in popeye cartoons.<br><br><br><br>
designer stubble, little goatees, or cleanshaven, are definately the way to go for the hip modern stylish veggie man about town.<br><br><br><br>
or you could do what that dude in the movie jackie brown did, and plait/braid a skinny beard? hmm, maybe not though.

Hitler grew his moustache in that fashion because he was a big Charlie Chaplin fan. Unfortunately the moustache is more associated with Hitler, so I'd say no also, but the Halloween idea is cool!

I kind of disagree w/everyone... I think if you want to do it, go for it! I say, who cares what others percieve it as? As long as you know what it's there for, that's all that matters.

I'd say keeping the moustache till halloween would be a good compromise, though a beard is a lot less cheesy than a moustache. Why not keep the beard until halloween and then shave it all off the day after?
