Im a new vegan and I thought I could rely on my vegetarian standbys, but I noticed that most, if not all, MF stuff contains dairy. Is there an alternative out there? I saw that Bocca sometimes does and does not have dairy. I need my fast microwave stuff!

I had a lot of Morningstar stuff I gave up when I went vegan too. ;P It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Lightlife has a bunch of things that are vegan - "burgers," "meatballs," chili, texmex, bbq, a "chicken" tortilla wrap, which I had once (because its kind of unhealthy and I shouldn't be eating it but I had to give it a go ;P ) and it was very very yummy. There's a lot more things than the ones I listed, but yeah, I think they're the best fake meat company. :)

Mornignstar makes a burger called "vegan" as does Boca. They're both alright. Amy's makes amazing burritos. There's also one company called smart something they carry in shoprite which makes (what I've heard to be) real good vegan meat substitutes. Hope that helped...

I was disappointed at first as well upon noticing that many Morningstar Farms products are riddled with eggs and dairy.

Amy's has quite a few vegan things. But I actually just adapted and started eating more unprocessed foods. Which is probably better for me anyhow.

*boggle* My local supermarket carries about 20 different Amy's products, and almost all of them have cheese. I had no idea Amy's had so many vegan options. I might have to talk to the manager about starting to carry more of those.

As for the fake burgers, I've found that the vegan ones tend to taste awful. I'm not vegan, so I still use Morningstar Grillers, but I keep trying vegan varieties, in the hopes that I'll find a decent one. It hasn't happened yet.

But I'm only talking about the ones that try to taste like a hamburger. I think the Boca "chicken" patties that I like are vegan. I'll have to double check, as I don't remember now offhand. I've been trying so many new foods since going vegetarian last month that I'm starting to lose track.

I guess you've tried it, but I think the Boca vegan burgers are pretty good. I also use the Lightlife "hamburger crumbles" in recipes and think it's pretty good. Of course, I never liked eating cow even when I was an omni, so I'm not the best source I reckon

Don't get me started on Morningstar.. grr.. Around here there isn't a big vegan selection (the one place in town that had Boca burgers stopped carrying them...urg) The only veg friendly meat subs I've found near by are Boca burgers and Boca's riblets- I love them both, and my omni friends/family also love them... every time I eat a riblet I scarf it down because they always always always want a bite... funny how nobody I know is veg, yet they have no problem eating all my veg food... those bleepers!

Anyway, you're prolly better off prepping your food from scratch in large quantities, fridging/freezing it & popping it in the microwave later.
