Um, I didn't actually start this post. It was started by someone else and moved here from it's original location. This note has been added in hopes of avoiding any 'newbie' confusion.

nope. there's also gladrags that you can get online. never tried any of that though. i just buy what's cheap. it's gonna get thrown out anyway why should i care what brand it is and what new dodads it has. bah.<br><br><br><br>
and ain't it funny that they can charge more for unbleached, when theoretically it should be cheaper cause they're not put through the bleaching process and using chemicals and junk? wouldn't that make them easier, faster, and cheaper to make? it's just a marketing scheme.

I've been dying to get one, Avalon. Seriously. I just wish the damn thing wasn't <b>40</b> bucks! (Which, I know, is a good investment. I'm just a tightwad.)

I made my own little glad rags for the night-time. I use NatraCare tampons by day. Sorry if that's too much info...!<br><br><br><br>
But really, I want a Keeper. I do. Maybe I should have asked Santa for one. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/wink3.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=";)"><br><br><br><br>
And about the bleaching thing, I guess bleaching also sterilizes the cotton, and by not bleaching them, the extra cost may come in having to find an alternative way of sterilizing the cotton? I don't know. Just a thought. It doesn't matter, the stuff COSTS TOO MUCH. Period.<br><br><br><br>
Have any of you read Inga Muscio's book <i>****</i>? Yeah, I know, probably sounds vulgar. I looooooved it.

All the specialists I've ever visited have advised against using tampons unless absolutely neccessary (like swimming and such).. It restricts the natural flow and can contribute to various problem; endometriousis being one of them. Plus, if not changed regularly, bacteria builds up. And I was also told if you must wear them, don't wear them at night. I'm not a big fan of tampons.

I hope this is a brand name that hasn't crossed the Atlantic, because otherwise they don't sound particularly ve*gan or comfortable <img alt="" src="http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/happy/wink.gif" style="border:0px solid;">

I stopped using tampons at night when I read an article about two women who got toxic shock from them and had their hands and feet amputated. If I'm at home I can usually manage without any shop bought stuff at all. Nice soft wads of toilet paper work for me. But at work it's different and a ridiculous expense. I'm waiting for my #506 moon today. Multiply that by $ X a box or two of tampons, more than a month's pay. I worked a month of my life to pay for periods. AGGH.

Glad I don't have to deal with it anymore <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)"> I must say my moods are so even keeled now as compared to before. I used to be a raving lunatic one week out of the month..literally wanting to stomp the **** out of anyone crossing my path. I'm so glad I'm nice and peaceful now (and the rest of the world probably is too <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/grin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":D">)

Spud, the info you provide seriously scares me!!! Do you still have the article? I'd be interested in reading it as well as learning how many such cases there have been. Scary stuff!!

Here's someone selling the Keeper for $33.50 including shipping. $30 if you pay by Paypal. The merchant is a vegan, too.<br><br><br><br><a href="http://www.randomgirl.com/keeper.html" target="_blank">http://www.randomgirl.com/keeper.html</a>

I have a keeper but I haven't really tried to use it. I think it takes a while to adjust. The first time I tried, it was scary.

*shudder* Tampons had to have been invented by a man, and a sick one at that. I absolutely hate them. Eeeerrrggghhhh. I've used them very rarely, and they were the most horrific experiences of my life. They were uncomfortable, I swear they made my cramps worse, and just the idea...of plugging up a hole...eewwww.<br><br><br><br>
Teri, I tried using wads of toilet paper once when I ran out of pads...didn't work. Not by a looooooong shot. Me flow's just too heavy. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/sad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":("> My mother found my heavy bleeding so frightening she took me to the doctor to see if I was all right. Doc said I'm okay, some people just have very heavy periods. I'm also terribly irregular...but I'm hoping it's just a thing that will pass as soon as I've fully matured.

This person does a real good job of explaining...<br><br><br><br><a href="http://www.io.com/~wwwomen/menstruation/tss.html" target="_blank">http://www.io.com/~wwwomen/menstruation/tss.html</a><br><br><br><br>
Also, per the CDC: Cases of TSS reported annually are 1-2 in every 100,000 for women between the ages of 14-44. 5% of cases reported were fatal.
