Hi everybody. I'm Molly. I found this board through a post on the Paul McCartney Veggie Info message board, where I've been posting for some time. I'm a vegetarian who is increasingly eliminating dairy and eggs from my cooking at home.

More about me, in brief:

Age: I'm going to be 29 for a few more years, I think.

Marital Status: Married to a non-veggie.

Children: A 12-year-old Siamese cat named Guinness.

Occupation: Professional nanny; formerly a teacher.

Hobbies: Crocheting, gardening, writing, cooking.

More about me, in long:

A few months after we were married, my husband (whom I refer to as "Husband"; he calls me "Wife") and I went out for a steak dinner. We both overate and felt miserable. On the drive home, Husband turned to me and said, "Would you cook vegetarian for me?" I blinked in surprise. He said that he used to be a vegetarian in high school but since he didn't really cook, he just ended up eating fried rice all the time.

"Sure," I replied. I went home, got on the computer, and tried to find out the basics of vegetarian nutrition and get some meal ideas. We went veggie basically overnight--within a few days, I'd given away all the non-veggie items from our freezer, and donated the pantry staples to a homeless shelter.

I've remained veggie; Husband hasn't. Although he eats my veggie cooking at home, he often orders meat when we go out to eat, or when we visit family. He's very supportive of my vegetarianism and and supports my decision to raise our (future) children vegetarian, though, for which I'm grateful.

Yet more information: I was born and raised in rural Nebraska, where cattle and hog operations abound. The town where I attended college was about 10 miles downwind of an enormous battery hen operation. Conventional "wisdom" there is that meat is necessary for a healthy diet and that vegetarians are actively trying to destroy America's farm families.

My dad calls me "sequoia bark." I try to take it in good humor

Welcome Molly! Sounds like you have a decent situation there. I'm 29 as well, never gave much thought to fibbing about my age, sounds like a good idea.

Thanks, everybody I've been reading a lot around here. It sounds like there are about a zillion vegans on the board which is encouraging. I'll begin posting soon... on my way to work now
