This after months of statements, including during her campaign, such as "I will not sign this bill" (direct quote) and "Unless it's put to the people, I will veto this bill" (summarizing). The public comments are a non-binding session. There is scheduled to be NO referendum.<br><br><br><br>
My letter to Gov. Granholm is in the works, but I'm first trying to find an alternate phrase for "big fat liar".<br><br><br><br>
The big argument from the pro-hunting lobbyists, lo these many years: "39 (40 now, since MN beat us to the punch) other states do it!" Well, by all means, we can't be the ONLY ones not to shoot doves. Geez.<br><br><br><br>

I read somewhere that statistically only about 20% that are killed would be used for consumption. They are hunted mainly for sport, not food and render very little meat.

I very much doubt that a dead dove can be a replacement for a store-bought chicken, as hunters who bother to eat the birds get only a small piece of breast meat about equal in size to two pieces of shrimp.<br><br>
Doves are shot so avidly because they fly quickly and in unpredictable patterns, thus hunters like the challenge for live target practice. Even hunting columnists and magazines admit that this is the main appeal of dove shooting, not serious desire for food.<br><br>
More shotgun shells are discharged, in general, to kill doves than to kill any other widely hunted animal.<br><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/rifle.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":gun:"> --"Dang peace activist birds!"

There's something ridiculously ironic about this. Something very Family Guy-esque. Actually, in one episode, there's a contest to decide what the theme of that year's parade. In order to figure it out, they write down ideas on strips of paper and then tie said strips of paper to the legs of doves. The doves are praised for their beauty before being released and shot at. The idea tied to the one that falls is chosen as the theme of the parade. Of course, in that case it's supposed to be awful and absurd.<br><br><br><br>
That someone is actually doing (the equivalent of) this is really pathetic.
