So I had made a post in the "gripes" thread about going to a vegan meetup group based here in Montreal, in search of more vegan friends. As for years now I only have one real vegan friend.<br><br>
So first off, half the peole there are talking about eating egg and cheese. I call them out, and they reply with, "yeah I'm semi-vegan". So I was like, "WTF is a semi-vegan?"<br><br>
Then, one macho man got on the topic of hunting.... but WTF, this group meeting was such a mindf*&^.<br><br>
I told him he wasn't vegan, then he told me he was at least a "dietary vegan" and that he had the right to be there. Then all the semi-vegans told me I was being rude, and I told them all to go home and rethink what it is to be vegan, and left.<br><br>
vegan hunter, really? FFS. I don't even want him to call himself a dietary vegan, TBQH. Even if he doesn't eat animal products or eat the animals in which he murders, how can a hunter be vegan? Unless he uses a technicality like "dietary vegan"? It's been a couple of days and it's still hurting my brain.

That would piss me off to no end, and i'd probably lose even more faith in people, i probably would have gone off on them (or at least wanted to) and told them they are the reason why veg*ns aren't taken seriously by a lot of people, and that at least omnis aren't lying to themselves and everyone else.

I don't get it. What is he hunting for then if he doesn't eat meat, fun? I did hear from some vegetarians that I know that they approve of meat eating only if it is hunted. but none of them hunts or wants to do so since they don't eat meat.<br><br>
maybe this group is just also for people who are moving towards veganism thats why there are "semi-vegans". like i went to vegetarian meetup here, and som e people weren't vegetarian but the group description said that it is also for people interested in being vegetarian or the ones who just like vegetarian food

That's the best you could have done!<br>
Because even if the group is open to non-vegans, being "semi-vegan", whatever this could mean, and/or a hunting vegan is pure non-sense!

There is no end to the weirdness is there? People love to make having a cruelty free lifestyle as complicated as possible....when really, it's so easy.

I think you were very restrained in your response to them Kris! They sound incredibly misguided. That must have been so frustrating for you.

Wow, that must have been such a weird situation. Sounds like you did the right thing tho! I guess something like this was bound to happen with the advent of so-called "dietary veganism" and the watering down of the meaning of "vegan".

This is the part that gets me. Sounds like a bunch of posers...what they think is 'semi-vegan' is just vegetarian, isn't it? or are they complete flexetarians? Definitely seems like the kind of people who just want to feel better than everyone else by throwing around the word vegan when it has no meaning to them. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/no.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="">

Sounds like you either need a new group or just shouldn't be in groups, if they're going to be this idiotic.<br><br>
Honestly the only time I choose to interact with other vegans except on here would be during leafleting or something. To be honest a lot of people in this community just freak me right the frack out and I wanna spend as little time around them as possible. I care about the animals, not people with personality disorders.

Hmmm...what does he do with the animals he hunts?<br><br>
Has he ever tried the online game tofu hunter? may be a nice solution.<br><br>
I personally get really irked these days by 'faux vegans' as I call them. They seem to always try and justify their non-vegan habits to others and spread the inaccuracies. In the end, it's the animals that suffer. Good for you for leaving the meeting. If I was in MTL I would of gone to the next one for you and reinforced the point. I'm just a **** disturber like that LOL

ROFL!! Maybe he's on the hunt for the rare and deadly extra, extra firm Tofu..., hard to catch and put's up quite a fight from what I've heard. As far as I'm concerned if he's hunting for the purpose of not eating what he's killed, then it's killing a helpless animal for the sake of the adrenaline rush of it, and either way it's not right, no matter how you look at it. There's no way he could be calling himself "VEGAN", when he's a self proclaimed hunter, and proud of it. The way it is, I'm starting to feel hypocritical when wearing my fav leather biker jacket that I bought a couple of weeks before I went vegan (didn't know that I was going Vegan at the time, it just ended up that way!). I've found a good Vegan store a 20 min drive from here, and just before I leave on my trip in late Sept will be picking up a pair of good vegan shoes to wear down there. Can't afford to do it before then as this trip is stretching my finances to the max.

Maybe he meant that he hunts vegans?</div>

That's probably why he was at the event, but then he was disappointed that so many of these so called vegans weren't vegans at all.
