Its a good message to people who drink and drive becasue not only are you putting yourself in danger but others. Its sad <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/sad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":("><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/sad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":("><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/sad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":("><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/sad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":("><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/sad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":(">

"In June 2001 Reggie Stephey was convicted of two counts of intoxication manslaughter for the deaths of Jacqui's two friends. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined $20,000."<br><br><br><br>
Sounds like they let him off way too easy... only seven years for killing two people, and causing that much pain to Jacqueline... doesnt seem right. She's gotta live with this for the rest of her life, and that Reggie kid will be able to continue his life as though nothing happened in 7 years. I didnt see any information on the other passenger that survived. She ok?

I followed the link to the photo gallery, and one good thing about the drunk driver is that he and Jaqui did an anti drunk driving commercial together.<br><br><br><br>
Although I agree that 7 years is short for killing and horribly injuring people, I doubt he will ever live his life like nothing happened. Unless he is a completely heartless person, I can't see how he could ever get over knowing what he did to her. (and the others.)

I first saw this site a couple of months ago and its horrific what she has had to go through. I think it is so admirable that she has chosen to go public to work towards eradicating drink driving.

My aunt goes out drink-driving all the time. Once, she managed to end up going the *wrong way* on the M25 (London's busiest/biggest motorway). Yet somehow she has never ever been in an accident!<br><br><br><br>
Crazy woman.

My brother got a DWI once and called me for sympathy. I told him that I had just joined MAD. He didn't speak to me for a couple of years after that...

I've been stupid behind the wheel more times than I care to admit.<br><br>
I've been very lucky so far, but I know I have to be more careful. It's very bad.

I totally understand hatred towards drunk drivers, I feel it as well. One thing I learned when I got out into the world was how common drunk driving is. Everyone will hem and haw about how aweful it is one day, and then so many people will make little jokes about themselves or their friends getting loaded and driving home, and everyone just laughs. I have been privy to many of these conversations, and to point out that the person could have killed someone or to allow their friend to drive could have killed someone, would seem very strange at the time. I've never known how to handle this. I hear these conversations among people of all walks of life. It is VERY common. I rarely hear someone say, "I was so wasted, I had to call a cab in order to be safe, ha ha ha!"<br><br><br><br>
I believe everyone here is sincere, but I certainly hope that any one reading this thread remembers this girl the next time they or some friend jokes about "how wasted" they were that night and how much fun it was. (if any driving is involved)

Good points Thailia, I see this all the time too. Worse yet is when people joke about how they don't even remember getting home and they were behind the wheel. I get extra, extra defensive in regards to driving skills late at night/early morning, but no matter what defensive measures you take its nearly impossible to prevent all accidents. I believe I read somewhere that nearly 40% of drivers on the roads after midnight are intoxicated. Scary, scary stuff.

It's really beyond me that people could find any humour at all in the thought of driving drunk - with all the horrible accidents that have resulted from such absolute stupidity.<br><br>
I have both an uncle and a brother who should consider themselves both very lucky that they are alive today and didn't kill or seriously injure anyone else from their drunk driving accidents.<br><br>
I took drivers ed in high school, and as a required part of the course, a couple nurses came in and gave us a slide show showing us the results of people who decided to drive drunk. Not a pleasant sight at all. I just don't understand how anyone after seeing that could even be tempted to risk it..
