So I feel like a bad vegan because I have never been able to watch videos like "Meet Your Meat" or similar. Whenever I try I feel sick and have to leave the room within the first five minutes. Obviously I read about the horrible things that happen in slaughterhouses and I know what goes on, but I can't even look at the pictures. Does anyone else have the same reaction? It makes me feel kind of guilty.

I tried to watch that too, but turned it off after a few moments. It's not your duty to watch such things, by any means, no more than it would be necessary for a monk to watch Vietnam war footage.

I'm vegan and have not watched a single one. I don't need to see what's going on to know what's going on. I do enough reading in books and on the internet to be able to describe in detail to my peers what goes on in the murder factories.

If you are a vegan the I agree with Lord Hillyer, HOWEVER, if you ARE NOT A VEGAN I beleive it is your duty to watch how these things get killed.

I was driving along one day and saw some people in front of KFC, I saw chickens boiled alive etc and KFCCruelty.com and watched those videos.

It set me on the path I am on today. I watched all of them and I got the same feeling you did beatricious.

I believe that if you are going to eat it the least you should do is watch how it got to your plate.

I am assumin that since you are here you are a vegan and I would not feel guilty about that. I do think that people who eat that stuff should feel guilty and eventually stop eating meat or at least stop being such wussies and watch the videos.

I had been vegetarian for years without watching any of those videos. Recently because of all the positive reviews I decided to check out "Peaceable Kingdom". Now I'm trying veganism.

I don't watch any of the videos either. The only one I've seen is "Behind the Mask" and it didn't have too much graphic stuff. I watched it because a friend sent me the dvd. It is very good and I'm glad I did. But I won't watch the others.

"Peaceable Kingdom" is not graphic at all, which was the reason I was open to watching it. I knew something overly graphic would just turn me away. But I heard it was very well done without graphic footages like some of the others.

And it was.

I agree with you. I'm vegan, but I haven't been vegan for very long, and while I was vegetarian I would try to watch those movies and wuss out. (Has anyone seen the part where the guy picks up a baby chick and tosses it into the garbage can? Breaks my goddamn heart every time.) I figure, if I can't even WATCH people doing those things to animals, how can I support it with my money? I'm a member of an animal rights group at my uni and we put on a slaughterhouse video once a week in a really public, busy location. Most people just avert their eyes and run by as quickly as possible. I just want to shake them and force them to sit down and watch the entire thing from beginning to end, but then again, I haven't even been able to do that.
