Does any one else here come from the typical all american meat eating family of hunters? And/or a family that thinks veganism and animals rights activism is a waste of time? I'd love to get to know you people. I'm 17 years old, and i live in PA. Veg for Two years, and i fully dedicate my life to animals. My screen name is Angeldust1926, and my E-mail address is [email protected] I'd love to chat.

Yes, I have a meat eating family and even though they said they respect my vegetarianism (don't know yet what they will say about veganism), they said that that means in NO WAY that I will ever be able to change them. They snap at me whenever I make a comment about cruelty towards animals and whatnot.

I am 20 years old and live in Washington (originally from Germany, so I don't have a typical "american" family).

Welcome. I have a family that, uh, humors my views. My little brother hunts and fishes but finds my vegan foods fascinating.

My mom considers any pro-veg material I send her propaganda, even facts or newspaper articles. And this is my liberal mother that raised me to question everything, which is probably 90% of what led me down this path in the first place.

I'm a new at being a vegitarian. I've been trying to prepare veggie meals for my husband and I for about a week. I'm still trying to figure out how to explain to my family, especially my mother whom I love dearly, about not eating animal products. I did tell my sister. Maybe she can tell my mom.

LOL - deepest meat adoring Estern Europe family here, especially my father's (both old and new) family. Old values and traditions. Pig gets slaughtered every year, even though they moved to the city and don't have any livestock anymore. Yep - they buy a pig just to slaughter it. A meal without meat is not a meal. Between meals, there is snacking which is washed down with milk. Cheese sometimes replaces the bread (i.e. cheese + meat "sandwich").

OTOH I was also raised to question everything, just like epski. So I question it.

I'm far away from them, though. And I converted my sister to vegetarianism, and am working to wean my mom from milk (she rarely eats meat).

But that's basically where I come from.

Yes Angeldust1926 - I think there are lots of us out there.

I am the opposite of some

So often it's the children who have meat eating parents

In my house I'm a veggie parent who has a meat eating child

(I haven't given up hope though)

Hi- I come from a big meat eating family. Also, my father is a hunting and fishing guide. My son is, and has always been vegetarian.

My family has been very, very supportive (not my father, though- who isn't part of my life anyway). My whole family (mom, two brothers, two sisters) are always willing to taste whatever I make. They go to great lengths to accommodate mine and my son's diets. I am quite blessed in this way....

They are also very supportive of the vegetarian organization I am trying to get going (offering to help with phone calls, letters, filing forms, promotion, etc.)-

on my mums side of the family, all the men/boys were brought up to hunt and fish, and still do.....

my grandpa, (dads dad) owned a farm, so my dads gained this, "animals are only here for us to eat" kind of attitude.....

none of my family have ever said i shouldn't be vegetaian, though i sometimes get the "ohhhhhh you're not one of them are you" when they find out, but that doesn't bother me, but yeah i wish they wouldn't carry on hunting........

My family eats meat, a lot actually. So that is making it very hard for me to become a full vegetarian. But I'm working on it. Go grocery shopping with my mom to make sure she gets what I need, not just meat for the rest of the family.

Unfortunatly, my family just thinks this will be a faze I have, and it'll pass and I'll eat meat within no time. I am very serious, and them taking it lightly, isn't helping me along the way.

Feel free to contact me if ya wanna chat. ;-)

I grew-up with a meat-eating family, who still eat meat, but they have been very accepting of my vegetarianism even accomodating!

I've joined this online group for support; I don't have many vegetarians in my life and feel like it's a burden that I don't want any more (though I can't imagine eating meat). So, I'm going to keep reading and see what I find. Do any of you eat dairy and/or fish?

Some here do. More dairy than fish, for sure. I'm vegan.
