For some reason, I've really been floundering for meal ideas lately. I have a few basic staples that I enjoy, but they do get dull after a while, yeah?

I posted in this forum because many of the meals I used to enjoy were lacto-ovo, and I'm vegan now. I'm not interested at all in vegan "replacements"... vegan cheese, deli slices, etc, except very occasionally. I just want to sort out some easy meals that aren't based around 'replacements' for what I used to eat (ie. breakfast would be an egg on toast and fruit, etc.). I'm sure there's a better way to put this, but not... weird vegan food, ha. Ironic, since I've been vegan for quite a long time... it's just that with all my ED issues I never really sorted these things out.

Oatmeal or cereal and fruit for breakfast every day is getting old fast.

Any suggestions?

smoothies for breakfast... I know it is still fruit, but it is at least a little more exciting because you can make different flavor combos. I love mango, pineapple, strawberries and cranberry juice. Or, have you ever made vegan pancakes? It's not hard.. you can even find a good pancake mix that doesn't have egg or milk in it and use soy/rice milk, and egg substitute, I like using milled flax seed as a sub. in pancake mixes. Or you can always go the british rout and make some vegetarian baked beans and toast .

I've tried pancakes a couple of times, with varying results. The easy-basic-simple (or something to that effect) recipe in the recipe forum here seems to be pretty much foolproof. Still, though, I don't have time to make anything like that except on weekends. I wouldn't even have time for hot cereal except that I leave it to soak overnight or put it in the crockpot. But I'm kind of burned out about it lately.

Smoothies are a great idea! I've been making them a bit, with bananas and blueberries or strawberries. I'd forgotten about them lately, though! Baked beans and toast are good, too... I don't suppose you have a recipe? It's really hard to tell which ones around here include pork or other animal ingredients.

What is teff seed? I've never even heard of it, ha.

How bad for you are breakfast cereals- bran flakes, cheerios, etc? Is "golden syrup" as an ingredient different from HFCS? I tried to google it but couldn't make sense of what I found.

I like bagels or toast with peanut butter for breakfast, but I worry that I'll be getting more than the recommended amount of protein in the day, then, if I have a couple glasses of soymilk and a protein with each lunch and dinner- and we've all heard the facts about how omnis get too much protein and the strain on your kidneys. Ergh.

I like a good classic stir fry myself.

Either a prepackaged mix or frozen veggies and sauce.

Then either some kind of oriental pasta or cereal (yeah I tend to use cereal instead of rice).

Sometimes throw in some mock meats, tempeh or tofu.

I'm not much for eloborate cooking, I have a tendency for the stuff my face diet which a friend of mine just hates. I guess it depends on whether you view cooking and eating as an activity in and of itself or you are just refueling your body for other things.

In regards to pancakes, you could always make a bunch on your time off and them freeze them. I do that sometimes, and then microwave them in the morning.

And in regards to beans and toast... I always buy the premade vegetarian baked beans made by Bush, you know "roll that beautiful bean footage" They've been making a vegetarian type for years, but I don't know if you have them where you live. I know of another premade kind that has a tomato sauce base that is vegetarian. You just have to look around, I guess. I don't know of any recipes, sorry.

Glad I could help you though.

I know in another post you mentioned that you are not a fan of Dr. Fuhrman. However, there are so many delicious recipes on his website that cater to vegans. It's ok if you don't wish to follow his diet in general, but how about looking on his website for some recipes? By the way, his member center is loaded with tons more recipes that are not available to the public. Again, don't have to be a fan, but just take a look at some of the recipes. I think you would like some of them.

Good luck in your quest to eat deliciously...
