hubby and i are seeing it this weekend (it's his birthday,a nd he's already bought tickets in anticipation!)...

so is it worth the hype?! as good as the first?! better or worse?!

I like the movie but it was very disappointing. Yes the fight scenes were awesome but that's all there was. Just a handful of reallllly long drawn out fight scenes and some scattered info that was supposed to be the plot. I am desperately hoping that the third one lives up to the hype. Of course you still should go see it in the theatre because the special effects look better on the large screen.

I saw it. It was pretty good but stalled in the second half. And I thought

was just plain lame.

I wasn't VERY disappointed. I'd pay to see it again just for the technical aspect, but it was lacking a certain quality of direction. It felt like rote plot, and I never connected to the emotional intent. I never did in the first one, either, but they played the emotional aspect down in that installment.

I was a little worried about that scene you refer to Michael, but it was salvaged at the end of it for me, 'cause not only was I expecting something like that at some point in the trilogy, I was sorta chanting for him to do it in the back of my head.

Still a recommend in my book. I'll never be able to watch another kung fu movie again. None can compare.

I saw it Friday night! Of course, it was the 9:40 pm showing, so by 11:30 I'd lost interest, become fidgety, and started getting distracted, so I got lost. Anyways, the parts I did pay attention to were pretty good. I liked the first one much better, though.

I think the Matrix sounds pretty lame. The whole concept is incredibly weird and idiotic and the movie's overhyped. I wouldn't waste my time going to a dumb movie like that.

I loved the first one so much. I thought it was really original. And I don't even like action/sci-fi movies, but there's something about The Matrix. The second one (obviously) lacks the "a-ha" factor of the first, and that's sort of the biggest problem. Once you get it, you get it. So they try to make up for it by offering you all this complicated stuff as if to say, "See look! There was so much more to it and isn't this even more mind boggling?" but it just doesn't work.

I'm still glad I saw it because I love the concept and the special effects are awesome, but there were moments (esp one mentioned by Michael) that are bordering on absurd. Especially when
[SPOILER=Warning: Spoiler!]Trinity dies and then she is somehow "resurrected" by Neo and then a little while later someone asks her how she is feeling and she says, "i'm fine." Some people in the theater actually laughed at that one.[/SPOILER]
And it seems like the "rules" that they set up in the first one don't seem to apply or are changed in this one. Like,
[SPOILER=Warning: Spoiler!]I get it that he can alter the physical world in the matrix so I suppose that he could jump very, very high or possibly do a little flying around but is it necessary to parade him through the atmosphere like freakin' Superman???[/SPOILER]

So anyways, I could go on, but in a nutshell, it was entertaining and I still want to see how it all ends, but it's nowhere near as good as the first one.

Well, I think he's able to do all of these things because he has the ability to manipulate the program. If 'real life' is nothing more than a program then it's conceivable that there would be a way for someone to alter it, even if that includes

. At least that's the way I took it. That unlike others who simply have to live with what they're programmed to do he has the power to change it.

I really have no complaints about the movie. I'm not a Matrix fanboy and I'm not interested in digging any deeper than what I initially took from it but it was entertaining and that's more than I can say for a lot of the movies I've paid to see over the years.

I very rarely go to the theater any more. We have a local theater that plays a classic/independent/foreign films and I've been totally spoiled by the quality of what I've seen there compared to what I see at the megaplex. Plus popcorn, candy, and soda are only $1.

And something like Russian Ark (filmed in one 90 minute take), something actually interesting and different, is hardly heard of.

I actually went to see the Matrix tonight. I'm an idiot..... it was damn awful. I almost left within the first two minutes because I had a feeling it'd suck based on the opening scene. But I stayed (I wanted to see the car chase).

People in the theatre didn't seem too interested either..... some were talking, some playing with their mobile phones, and some even talking on their mobiles. I didn't care because the movie didn't have my full attention anyway (was working through a database problem in my head). Many parts were SO boring, and many SO stupid.

The waste of $9 was bad enough...... but the waste of 2 hours of my life, now forever gone, was the greater tragedy.

I disagree with both of your major quibbles.
[SPOILER=Warning: Spoiler!]Neo massaged her heart, bringing her back like a doctor in a sense, and like Jesus (which is the obvious comparison, "The One," even in the first film), and the flying was established at the very end of the film. The point all along has been that as he learns everything he can do, he acquires more and greater powers, and can bend ever more rules of the Matrix.[/SPOILER]

I do think it suffered from the lack of freshness and some serious corniness, not to mention nothing left in the film could top the
[SPOILER=Warning: Spoiler!]courtyard fight sequence with the Smiths (which also went a little over the top, though great fun)[/SPOILER]
, but I felt it was well worth the $10 I paid for it. I'll probably see it again in a few weeks at a free employee screening on the lot where I work.

Unlike Kurm, I definitely feel that it was worth my time, but I've always believed that every individual approaches films differently and not every film is for every person. In my case, as a budding filmmaker, The Matrix films are essential to understanding where filmmaking is headed, not necessarily in terms of story, but in terms of the craft, and the Wachowskis are far ahead of the curve in that respect.

I saw it last night.

I enjoyed the action sequences, but found the rest of it puzzling if not incomprehensible. I'm not very patient with deception within a deception within a deception, ad infinitum. That sort of thing just turns me off.

The movie was also very incomplete in itself. I'll be interested in seeing Part III, but this one was pretty much a bridge from Part I to Part III.

BTW, I loved Part I.

Also, there was a very strange arrest incident at the theater I went to to see the film. I'll see if I can paste my account of that into the next post.

I gave into temptation and went to see "The Matrix Reloaded" at Hollywood 27 at 100 Oaks Mall. As I was leaving the movie theater, around 10 pm, in the long hall that led to the front door, several police officers were hustling a tall, skinny black man of about 18 out of the movie theater. Maybe "police officers" is not quite the right phrase, since these were not Metro police. They were hatless, and wore very dark blue, almost black-looking uniforms. Their shirts seemed more like T-shirts and had the word "AGENT" printed in large white letters on the back. (I almost thought that this was some sort of publicity stunt related to "The Matrix Reloaded.") I had a harder time reading the front of the shirts, but I think it said "TBI Agent" (although it could have said TBA Agent, although that does not make sense to me).

A couple of things struck me as odd. First, there were at least 6 officers to arrest one guy. Second, after a lot of yelling on the part of the guy and squirming, one cop got him pinned down on the ground with his hands behind his back, and the cop was basically kneeling on his back to hold the guy down. Third, they seemed to have no squad car or paddy wagon available to take this guy away. Instead, they seemed to be awaiting the Metro police, several of whose cars pulled in as I was pulling out. Fourth, none of the other officers had a bullhorn to speak to the crowd with, and plenty of people were milling around just a few feet from where all this was going on.

This just seemed bizarre to me. I wonder what crime this fellow

allegedly committed.

Man, I hope it was for taking a cell phone call or talking during the movie.

They should start fining the people guilty of such crimes against humanity the sum total of every ticket in the audience (plus an administrative fee) and refund everyone their money out of that.

I saw it. It wasn't as good as the first one, which most people can attest to. I didn't actually ever see the WHOLE thing of the first one. but it definitely held my attention and i really wanted to finish it. Maybe this is the reason I didn't like the second one as much; I didn't fully understand it. However, I did think the fight scenes were often too drawn-out, and i was hoping for somethign that would help me catch up...you know?
