I was reading up on running with asthma and allergies and it seems that many people wear a mask if the weather is cold, dry, dusty, polluted, or filled with pollen. I researched masks and one company claims their masks work as good as using albuterol before a workout. Another company sells specialized masks for different activities - one for bike messages in cities, another one for farm workers etc. So I was wondering, does anyone use a mask for running, cycling, skating, etc?

Not so much for allergies or air quality, but just because it's cold. I wear the same ski type mask you see in my profile picture to the left, in which I was, incidentally, exercising on a frozen lake when it was very, very cold <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)">

I Can Breathe has nice silk ones for indoor/outdoor allergies.</div>

Silk isn't vegetarian, though, is it? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/undecided.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":-/"><br><br>
I thought the silk worms were killed in the process.

Silk is not vegan, no. But that same company makes <a href="http://www.icanbreathe.com/organic.htm" target="_blank">some vegan masks</a>. I was actually thinking of getting one of these ones from another company:<br><a href="http://www.respro.com/products/sports-leisure/running-walking/sportsta_mask/" target="_blank"><img alt="" src="http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/6804/maskkk.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"></a><br><br>
The reason I started thinking about masks was the other day I went running and street cleaner drove by me three times (circling the neighborhood). It kicked up so much dust and nasty stuff that it felt like I was having an asthma attack for a week. I held my sweater over my mouth and nose as I ran by the street cleaner but it didn't help. If I ever see that damn thing again I will turn and run the other direction. I'll run in circles in a parking lot if I have to in order to avoid that nasty thing.

Forgot the 'y', sorry. Silky ones, but it's actually polyester I think.
