Hi all. Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) is on the 21st, and I was thinking of making a gumbo. Does anyone have any suggestions about what goes with gumbo? Thanks.

Cool, thanks. I've heard gumbo on rice, and gumbo on potato salad, but perhaps you're right. Cornbread, salad, and gumbo would be an excellent meal. (I'm not sure on King Bread, as we have a dieter, and it needs to be gluten free, and I'm not too sure about my gluten free baking abilities).

This is the same as Pancake day for us.
The day before Ash Wednesday us Brits have pancakes...the shops are stock full of lemon juice and premade pancake batter...
I may try out a Vegan recipe this year!

This doesnt help I know...but isnt it interesting we celebrate the same thing...differently.

As for mardi gras food: King cake! Dirty rice! Fried anything! Red beans and rice! Collard greens and black eyed peas!

The traditional way to eat those ones^ is butter, sugar and lemon juice.
But you can put on what you like then you roll them up and cut them into small pieces...numnum.
If I were to put syrup on mine personally I have Golden Syrup..which is a lot thicker and sweeter than Maple.
