Jesse Owens stated that it was somewhat humiliating when he was pitted against a horse in a race. It was the '30s, I believe, and the world class athlete and Olympic champion, had no other options because of the racism of that time. Many people saw it as "wrong," which, I guess it is in those terms; yet who would ever blame him? He had no opportunities, even as a champion, based soley on the ignorance of others.
