I don't like when articles have nothing to do with their titles.<br><br>
The first few sentences are about this guy who paid the bill with pennies, and then it's an editorial on inflation and coin/metal value. The article doesn't even come back to the guy. Poorly written, imo.

Good!! I've been a cashier and had customers do the exact same thing to me. The worst one was a woman who dumped $30 worth of pennies on the counter and then demanded me to count it all. It was also the day before Christmas Eve and my line of customers was insane! She did a pretty good job at pissing me off and everyone in line.<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/mad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":mad:">

If I owned my own store I'd have a policy about that kind of thing. At the very least, that much change should already be wrapped. It's completely ridiculous to expect a cashier to have to count all that. It's inconvenient for you AND everyone else in line. I had to deal with counting out tons of change when I worked retail, but $30 in pennies that aren't even wrapped is just crazy. I probably would have just lied and said I couldn't accept it. (and then gotten in trouble when she complained <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/tongue3.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":p">)<br><br>
Edit: The guy with the medical bill sounds like a huge jerk. I also agree that whoever wrote that article really goes off on a tangent.

All stores should have policies like that. I agree that the coins should've been wrapped. Hell she should've gone to one of those Coin Star machines and gotten the cash before she went shopping!<br><br>
The article is very oddly written. There's not very much information about the guy's story at all.

"gets in trouble".. it's money. Idiots, abolish the penny if you hate it so much. I get slack to for paying with pennies sometimes. It's money! It's so annoying when I see people leave stores and throw pennies on the floor, even silver change sometimes! maniacs!

Yeah, I used to HATE when people did that. And they act all pissy when it takes forever to count it out.

In Canada there is a law about how much change a store has to accept.<br>
From wiki:<br><br>
Legal tender of Canadian coinage is governed by the Currency Act which sets out limits of:<br><br>
$50 if the denomination is $2 or greater but does not exceed $10;<br>
$25 if the denomination is $1;<br>
$10 if the denomination is 10¢ or greater but less than $1;<br>
$5 if the denomination is 5¢;<br>
25¢ if the denomination is 1¢.

I think the issue was that he dumped them on her desk in a sloppy kind of way. I'm thinking that if they'd been rolled, (and if he hadn't been an ass) it wouldn't have been much of an issue. The article says it was a "disputed" medical bill, so that makes it sound like the guy was probably angry and was no doubt <i>intentionally</i> being a jerk.<br><br>
That article isn't very informative though. I found another one.<br><br><div class="quote-container"><span>Quote:</span>
<div class="quote-block">It reports that after discussing the bill and not getting it resolved to his satisfaction, "West maintains that he calmly asked the billing clerk, 'Do you take cash?' "<br><br>
He claims the woman "very haughtily said, 'Well, yes we do.' "<br><br>
And that's when he started pouring the pennies on the counter. Some fell on the floor. "That's just the nature of pennies," he told the newspaper. "They're round."</div>
</div>
<br>
Read the rest <a href="http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2011/06/06/137005554/2-500-pennies-guy-adds-his-two-cents-to-the-story" target="_blank">here</a>.<br><br>
If West had indeed already paid the fine, I can understand being upset about it, but dumping a bunch of pennies all over a clerk's counter is pretty immature. Who's to say that she even had anything to do with the supposed misunderstanding? It reminds me of people who get mad at retail clerks for things that are beyond their control. He sounds like the typical sort of jerk who takes his anger and frustration out on people who don't deserve it.
