PLEASE REFRAIN USING THIS THREAD TO POST INDIVIDUAL BITS OF SOFTWARE...

This thread is for gathering "Freeware Collection Sites" = SITES WHICH HAVE LISTS OF ALL THE GOOD STUFF, AND I DON'T MEAN JUNK FREEWARE, I MEAN QUALITY FREEWARE THAT IS SOFTWARE FREEWARE!!!

SO I WANT JUST THE LINKLIST SITES BASICLY THAT I SUPPOSE YOU COULD SAY LOOSELY 'ADVOCATE' (or Rate/ Review sites) anyway....SITES PREFERABLY WITH GOOD PRESENTATION and SHOW LINKS IN SOME QUANTITY THEIR FREE LOT OF STUFF ...*and*... IN ACCURATE DISPLAY & CATAGORY/ LIST FORMAT/in some way intelligable anyway ....

And.... I'm not really wanting specific homepages of companies in this thread unless its something exceptionally good with a good range of freeware, else-wise there are other VB threads for business HOMEpages and their self-owned freeware) ....Thats all good, but here I just want the independant vendor-like sites (so to speak) I suppose of freeware (the link sites mainly,) ie, the link collection sites of freeware, which are independant/ semi independant and offer all manner of FREE software, such could be Review Sites, so long as their itinery consists of a good batch of FREEWARE in among !!

first one which prompted me to start this thread is this:

Link Below here I found on ZoneAlarm forums (not linked here) ... where I saw someone recommending a List of Freeware (by type, etc) who says incidently: "There are a lot of great freeware products out there. Many are as good or even better than their commercial alternatives." "AWESOME LIST"

http://www.techsupportalert.com/best..._utilities.htm

I've found www.download.com to be useful and trustworthy. Not everything at download.com is freeware, there is trialware and shareware there as well, but it has a decent amount of good, free programs and good, solid reviews. Not quite what you are looking for maybe but it does have a search filter that restricts hits to totally free products only. I get most of my freeware from here. The users post reviews and have a good nose for malware and the like. I've posted reviews there myself and and had cause to email the staff and have found the support from the site admin to be excellent.

www.tucows.com is popular too. Similar idea to download.com, mixed bunch of trialware, shareware and freeware. Lots of commercial stuff mixed in, lots of stuff that is useless or worse, but you'll find a few gems there if you search. Tucows has a good reputation for no malware and viruses and a popular following.

Abandonia is one of my favourite "freeware" sites. Located at http://www.abandonia.com/index2.php it is only games and old games at that so again it's not exactly what you are looking for but honestly, I can't recommend it highly enough. Fantastic old games, nostalgic games, all abandoned and all free. Great tech support in the forums too. A couple of priceless utilities such as "DOSbox" which lets you run old DOS programs in other environments.

Located at http://www.the-underdogs.info/ , Home of the Underdogs is similar to Abandonia. Games only but one of the best sources of free, downloadable nostalgia on the net. Even if you didn't grow up in the era of DOS it's well worth a visit.

Sure I know download.com dududu, and sort of know tucows, but that I am as well to be reminded, so thanks.... and else what, I can only guess at whether I appreciate but hey its not necessarily just my thread, I mean you can add some influence by means of what you like if you want, and you did. Its cool I guess.
