Does anyone know if Linda McCartney sausages are vegan? I had a quick look at the ingredients, and couldn't see anything that'd make it unvegan, but perhaps I was overlooking something. I know that her other products contain egg/milk stuff...

Many thanks,

Last time I bought any they were vegan, but I found the ordinary ones gave me chronic wind, but the bbq and not soya ones didn't. In the past I've had long correspondences with them about the tendency they have to continuously improve, and thus de veganise their products. I used to buy their pies. One night I got home from the store and it wasn't vegan anymore. I phoned them up and said I'd have to starve because all the shops were shut. They were very helpful as customer relations depts go, sent me a voucher for £20 and we've had several letter exchanges since.

The internet version of The Vegan Shopper update for may 02 says 'delete'. Not 'no longer vegan'. most odd.

I also heard that they no longer have vegan products.

I can't find a link to prove it thoug.

Gossip: after linda died, the company was taken over and the products were "improved".

Ahh, thank you both. I may have to do a bit more research... Many thanks for the links, spud - the isitvegan site is extremely useful... I can't believe I hadn't come across it before!

This is complete hearsay so don't take my word for it!! But, I heard that the non-vegan ingredients were some kind of milk ingredient in the "vegetarian flavourings" listed. I prefer holland & barratt or granose sausages anyway but it's a shame. What has been added to "improve" the pies? I used to love the deep filled country pies when I was vegetarian, I haven't bought them since being vegan though as I'm unsure about this "vegetarian flavourings" lark!
