Yes, folks, today is the first day of spring, or the vernal equinox, or the first day of autumn, or the autumnal equinox, depending on which side of the equator you live.

I have to ask our friends from down under, how weird is it to be celebrating fertility and "new green" festivals such as Easter and Passover (um, that egg on the seder plate?) during a season that those of us in the Northern Hemisphere equate with Halloween, Thanksgiving, a tang to the air, watching the leaves turn color and drop off the trees, football (American), and the excitement in the knowledge that Christmas is just around the corner?
