Is there any easy way to tell if you're lactose intolerant? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/blush.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=""> at the moment i feel like i have more catarrh after i'm made to drink milk on a morning and i'm hoping that this is an easy way to be allowed to go vegan. i've seen the statistics too on it and i think there must be quite a good chance that i could be...anyone?

If you dont drink regular milk, and then all of a sudden you drink quite a bit it can make you feel a little off. I know if I have more than a regular glass of milk, my stomach gets really upset, and I get the ickys for quite some time.

I got this off of yahoo:<br><br><br><br>
"When people with lactose intolerance consume milk products, they may have symptoms such as abdominal bloating, excessive intestinal gas, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal cramping."<br><br><br><br>
I don't know if this is an easy way to avoid dairy or not (if there's someone trying to stop you from being vegan) since there is milk that is lactose free and things you can take before you eat dairy to avoid problems.

that. and even as you say, lucycat, there might be lactose free milk anyway. though i haven't seen them around, tesco and asda are pretty pathetic at things like that but i'm sure there would be a way around it. oh well. thank you though!

I just recently found out that I was lactose intolerant. The ironic thing is, up until recently, dairy was my FAVORITE food group. I seriously would down about a gallon of milk/day!! I would get daily headaches after more than a cup of milk, but it never occured to me that that wasn't normal [denial haha]. Plus, yogurt never had any averse affects on me. Ice cream makes my stomach feel like crap though, so that's how I realized.<br><br><br><br>
Do some research! that's what I did...had I known what lactose intolerance really was, I could have spotted it sooner.<br><br><br><br>
Another thing is, I wasn't BORN lactose intolerant...as I grew older my body just lost a lot of the digestive enzymes necessary for digesting dairy products....I thought you had to be lactose intolerant from the start!<br><br><br><br>
Eliminating dairy from my diet led to veganism haha. wierd.<br><br><br><br>
