I got talked into going to a restaurant with omni friends tomorrow, it's a place that does korean bbq and they were raving about. They know I'm vegan, btw. Anyway, I've never had korean food, let alone 'korean bbq' and I'm just curious about what I can expect. I've never had a problem eating out because I've found just about any restaurant always has veggies on hand, and even if there's no specific dish listed on the menu, I can always get things altered and most places are generally very nice and accomodating.

I was just wondering if anyone has ever been to such a place before and can give me a heads up on what kinda food I can expect?

(btw I know there will be meat there, and unlike some veg*ans, it doesn't bother me to be around others eating meat, cause that's their own choice)

thanks

Well, I don't know about the place you're going to, but the Korean BBQ places my friends go to serve plates of raw meat and you have burners at the table itself and cook your own food. They have always given me my own burner and several selections of veggie-bbq-ables (tofu & veggies) in addition to the rice and vegetable sides that are generally served with each meal. Depending on your temperment, the raw meat at the table may be a bit much. But then again, this restaurant may not be the type where you cook your own, so who knows? Most Korean places (BBQ your own or not) have plenty of vegetarian selections.

Good luck!

We have a "Mongolian" bbq. It is similar, except they have you give your dish to these guys who cook it for you on this giant grill. However, if you say you are vegetarian, they wipe it down first and use special veggie cooking utensils.

Basically it is just like making a custom stirfry
