PoesÃ*a's mother made a kitty litter cake last year for her daughter-in-law, and I have a co-worker who is the sweetest lady and a real cat lady. So today we celebrated her birthday and I made my very own kitty litter cake.
you could easily replace the tootsie rolls with rolls of vegan chocolate fudge (cook together equal amounts of peanut butter and maple syrup until thick and smooth, add cocoa powder, and arrowroot powder to thicken, then cool and roll into "turds").
there is one brand of generic whipped topping that my local grocery store sells that appears to be 100% vegan. i'll have to check the ingredients more thoroughly. anyway i think i'd like to try this recipe some time. it looks hilarious.
And for those of you like me, who don't like to be wastful, when you are done with the cake, you can actually use the litter box and scoop for what they were meant for! (Just remeber once you have so you don't put another cake in there
I really like those cupcake cakes. Reminds me of something we were given at a christening. I guess I should mention that this christening party was more extravagant than our wedding will ever be. But that's another story. Anyway, they had a "cake" that was made out of boxes shaped like cake slices and silver painted dry flowers were glued to the top of each one. They contained three very elegant chocolates and each guest got one to take home.
The Ron Ben Israel cakes. Oh yes, I have seen them and they're amazing. There's another person too in NYC who does cakes like that. Can't think of her name just now.
We'll probably go for a small cake and add on extra desserts for more selection. We went to Whole Earth Vegan Bakery a few weeks ago and got a few things and - blech! - nothing we got was good. We bake much tastier things at home. Which makes me nervous about getting a vegan wedding cake.
