Hey, I just need some veggies to share my anger with, because the people around me nod their heads, but how can they possibly understand that??!!

I am in the US right now, and was at a sweet water beach, with a nice park and all. It looked really idyllic until I saw that guy catch a wild goose. He was holding it by the wings so his children could pat it and I was already mad but just watched. Then he put it down on the ground and was about to break that poor bird's neck!!!!! So I started to shout really loud, and the omnis that were there with me then did, too. That guy looked up in surprise but still held the bird down, until he FINALLY let it go. I think he did not expect opposition. He had a grill and all, so you guys can imagine..

I have never seen such cruelty in my life and started to cry because I know that the next time noone might say anything and he will go ahead and kill animals, and teach his children that this is normal, so they will turn into the same ignorants! Being called the "hero of the day" did not make me feel any better, and maybe he hurt the bird before he threw it back into the water.

My point is also: OK, you want to eat animals, you had a lot of dead animals on your grill already, you are way too fat, WHY oh WHY do you need to catch wild birds??? If you were in Africa and were starving and you wanted to feed your children .. OK, that's a different story, but like that?? And first you let your kids pat the animal that they are about to see die and then bite into? Isn't that perverse?????

Good job for sticking up for the bird. It makes me sick to hear about that, just have it in good concience that you helped to save that birds life. maybe it will make him think next time he tried to do something like that

You don't need to be a veggie to understand what's wrong with that sort of thing. It's sick behaviour!! I seriously doubt he was doing that to grill, especially on the spot like that. This is just a twisted individual with absolutely no respect for animals lacking in any sort of proper conduct.

I would have done the same thing as you and intervened except I probably would have taken it one step further and called a game warden.

Did you get the liscence plate number? Not only am I sure it would be considered attempted cruelty to animals, but it would probably also violate sanitation and wildlife laws. Let your park ranger know you saw a guy do that so they can keep an eye out for this sort of thing. I know there are too many geese already, but I would think even the wildlife managers wouldn't want to decrease the population like that.

What a sicko!

The only people around that looked like some kind of authority were the lifeguards (highschool kids). I did call one of them over, but first, he did not want to do anything and said that for sure he was not going to kill it, but as I wouldn't let go of the subject he reluctantly went over there and told that group of people to stay away from the geese. That boy was a little scared to deal with that guy, because he was backed up by his group of people (family and friends).

I did not know what else to do as I am not from the States and for the omnis that I was with, the subject was over. Writing down the licence plate number would have been a good idea, too bad I did not think about it. That guy was really mad at me and when I went to move the car he followed me on his motorbike, but then parked somewhere else. It looked like he was trying to intimidate me, and I actually did get a little scared. We were thinking about driving over his motorbike, but that would not even be punishment enough.

And: he WAS going to eat it, I am completely sure of it.. the grill was lit and all, and it downed on me later that for this reason they kept feeding the poor birds, in order to have them lose fear, so that they could catch one. After I ruined his plans he started fishing.

thats so sick. i wouldve looked for the authority and then gone and rescued the goose, fighting tooth and nail. grrrrrr.... hehe i get vicious. but thats so sick. thats half the reason i became vegan anyway b/c i love ducks and geese and would never eat one or their eggs but then its hypocritical of me to say that n then still eat chicken and cow so i stopped and became totally vegan because i love ducks!!! (and all other animals too...do you think i could get a pet pig?)
