Juicers!!!!

1804 Views 19 Replies 17 Participants Last post by  vigilant20
I need some feedback...I plan on going on a fruit/veggie juice fast, starting as soon as possible. However, I need a juicer because currently the closest thing I have is a blender, and that is not gonna cut it.

Anyone have any recommendations?

I'm not worried about price too much. I think I want to shoot for $150 maximum since I only work part time. (I read somewhere that you should never spend less than $300 on a juicer.....I'll take my chances though)

Get a dehydrator and use the juice that comes after dehydrating?

There is no juice after dehydrating...unless you have a very, very odd dehydrator. The food is dried out over a period of hours, the liquid isn't just squished out of it. It evaporates.

They say that for a good reason, as cheaper juicers don't give very high quality juice, are more likely to break down, and are less convenient to use and clean.

If you think you will want to incorporate juice into your diet on a frequent basis, its better to get a higher quality juicer, which often can be used with other attachments to make nut butters and ice "creams" out of frozen fruits. But if you can't go above your budget, try to look for a juicer that masticates, rather than rips apart the fruits and veggies with sharp blades.
My Fiancee bought The Jack Lalane (sp) Juicer and we tried it with every fruit and veggie in the beginning...I am not a bigg fan I perfer to eat the fruits and veggies then juice them.

That's the juicer that I have and it's the best juicer I've ever owned. I bought it a long time ago. It's the only thing I've ever bought from TV! I can't remember how much it cost, but I do remember it being very expensive. It truely converts every part of the fruit or vegetable into juice, unlike other juicers where there is a lot of juice still left in the waste they produce. In this juicer, when you take out the strainer to take out the waste, you literally have to scrape it off, as it's that dry! It was well worth the money.

I love carrot juice and although it is very high in calories I do sometimes indulge. Though I haven't been using it for a while, as like someone else pointed out it's generally better to eat your fruit than to drink it. Though Jack Lelane is pretty healthy and he's been living off juice, hasn't he?
I've heard both positives and negatives about the Jack LaLanne. How frequently do yours get used? Do you find it to be durable?

I used it all the time when I first got it, like every other fancy kitchen appliance in my house. Now I use it every now and then when I get a craving. So I couldn't really tell you about the durability of it. Mine worked great for that 3 months I was drinking juice every day.

edited to say: maybe it might have been more than 3 months...but I don't want you to come back and hunt me down when your Lalanne juicer falls apart after 3 months and one day

I have an old cheap juicer. I've seen the newer model sell for about $60. It works, but the pulp is still really moist. I use the pulp in breads and muffins, so I don't feel like I'm totally wasting the veggies. If I had the money I would definatly buy a better one.

Spend as much on it as you comfortably can. It will be worth it.

On amazon.com you can read reviews of all different brands and price ranges.
My parents have 2 lalanne juicers and I have one. The one my parents keep at home is maybe 3 years old and gets used at least twice a day between my mom and my dad. I used mine a lot for the first year until I discovered smoothies. I usually only get greens in smoothies though. Juicing is a good way to work in some other veggies, so I still use it once or twice a week. Carrot and celery juiced with an apple is my favorite

An important tip to ordering the Jack LaLanne juicer:

When I originally called to order it, in five easy payments of $29.95, I got irritated that in order for me to receive it in less than 7 to ten WEEKS, I had to pay an additional $9.95 on top of the $24.95 shipping. I had given all my information, but I asked them to cancel and I hung up. Two days later, a woman called me from the company, asking why I had not placed my order, and offered it to me for THREE payments of $29.95 and a delivery of two weeks!
I'm very intriqued by the Vita-Mix which isn't really a juicer as it makes juice out of the entire fruit vegetable, there is no pulp to discard. So, you'd be consuming the entire vegetable/fruit.

However, I have a hard time justifying blowing £400 on a blender especially as I'm on the road so much and rarely home...

Wow, what a deal! I'll tell this to my dad, because he was thinking of ordering it too. Thanks for the info!
I have the Jack Lalanne and it works pretty good. One time I was feeding it parsley and I fed it too much I guess cause it broke. It was just a cable on the inside was disconnected and a friend fixed it but yeah.
I bought a Breville compact juice fountain a while ago and I'm pretty happy with it considering it cost me $99 at Amazon. It's fairly easy to clean and the pulp comes out pretty dry. I don't use it as often as I should so I didn't want to spend a ton of money on one but this meets my needs well.
I've seen the Jack LaLanne at Costco for less than $100. I have heard only good reviews about them. If I were to go out and purchase one today, that's most likely what I'd get.
I'm too lazy to use mine.....too much hassle.

.
The Macy's near work carries the Lalane. I have a bunch of coupons for Macy's so hopefully they'll accept them. Typically the coupons have all sorts of restrictions and exceptions.
Another option is getting it at Kohls. If you have a card they let you use so many discounts a year, you just have to mention you want to use it when you check out. I think they gave me 30% off mine or something.
